Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) - Options Behavioral Health Hospital
Options is a mental health and addiction treatment center for adolescents, adults, and seniors. Located in Indianapolis, IN, Options provides specialized care for each unique individual.
What would you do in this role?
The CNO will be a key member of the team at Options Behavioral Health Hospital. The CNO directs, plans, coordinates, monitors, and supervises nursing and the delivery of behavioral health/nursing services. We are looking for someone that provides a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers and the nursing staff.

Responsibilities
- Sets the vision for nursing practice in the delivery of safe, timely, efficient, equitable and patient centered care.
- Anticipates and effectively manage changes in census and acuity and allocates nursing resources based on measurement of patient acuity/care needed.
- Role models expectations related to customer service and demonstrates a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety.
- Serve as a member of the leadership team and on committees as required.
- Manage the daily operations of nursing services.
- Ensure nursing services are provided in compliance with the laws and regulations of federal, state and local governmental agencies. Standards are met for accrediting agencies.
- Integrate nursing functions with clinical and programs, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
- Provide effective and efficient budget management that ensures the best utilization of resources.
- Evaluate service needs and staffing requirements to ensure needs of patients are met.
- Provide effective staff management (hiring, development, training, performance feedback, etc.) that ensures utilization of personnel to best meet the needs of the patients.
- Develop and implement health care related training that assures the best possible delivery of health related supports and services. Review training at least annually and makes modifications as needed.
- Develop and maintain documentation systems for continuity of care and record storage that assures compliance with local, state and federal regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures.
- Monitor unit/floor functioning by making frequent rounds.
- Intervene in crisis situations and investigate incidents.
- Develop and implement tools to measure, assess and improve quality of nursing care, treatment and service.
- Actively participate in strategic planning and budget development.
- Oversee nursing services documentation to ensure it meets all standards.
- Is oriented to all functions of the bedside nurse in order to be able to assist with direct care as needed.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in nursing or mental health nursing strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or commensurate experience required.
- 10 Years RN experience preferred. 6 years RN experience required.
- Nursing leadership experience in a freestanding psychiatric hospital strongly preferred.
- Prior CNO/DON experience strongly preferred.
- 2 years behavioral health experience as and RN in an inpatient psychiatric setting required
- 3 years of progressive nursing management or administrative nursing experience required.
