Qualifications


General Description:

The Mental Health Therapist provides individual, family, and group therapy to children and their families in their home, school or other community settings. Community-based Mental Health Therapists provide shorter term (3-9 month) mental health stabilization services in partnership with a multidisciplinary team of case managers, skills trainers and psychiatric providers. They may also provide case management and consultation with PCPs, schools, ODHS Child Welfare and Self Sufficiency programs, and other community partners. Clients are referred through partnerships with local schools, primary care physicians, hospitals, or ODHS Child Welfare or Self Sufficiency. Some evening hours will be required. Options accepts both commercial insurance and Oregon Health Plan.

 

 

Required Qualifications:

Masters or doctorate degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field. Must be able to qualify as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and be eligible for registration as an associate (Social Work Associate, Professional Counselor Associate, Marriage and Family Associate), a Psychology Resident or licensure in the State of Oregon. Knowledge and/or experience providing mental health services, including assessment and diagnosis, to children, families, and/or adults. Must be computer proficient. Must have respectful, open, accepting attitude toward clients and their families. Must be able to pass a DHS background check.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of the impact of trauma and experience working with individuals and families from a systemic lens. Knowledge of best practice methods of treatment for serious and persistent mental illness and the impacts of co-occurring disorders. Strong understanding of evidence-based practice and the role of feedback informed treatment. Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, available community resources and supports. Experience with record keeping software preferred.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

65% - Direct Client Services

  • Interview client to obtain information concerning family history or other assessment information

  • Conduct mental health assessments for children and adults, including DSM-V diagnosis

  • Provide therapy and case management services in the office, schools, communities, or in the clients home

  • Develop and implement treatment plans, defining specific goals and objectives, and revise as needed

25% - Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and current client records, including timely Service Plans, authorization requests, and service notes within the electronic client record (ECR), and sign documents to meet federal and state regulatory standards

  • Coordinate access and provision of services from multiple agencies, including establishing service linkages, advocating for service needs, and obtaining entitlements based on mental or emotional disability

  • Work closely with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses to coordinate treatment

  • Coordinate case activities with treatment team partners including, when applicable, ODHS/Child Welfare, primary care physicians, schools, and others

  • Refer client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling as appropriate

  • Make requests for authorization for services to the local Coordinated Care Organization (CCO) as required

10% - Other duties

  • Attend and participate in regular clinical supervision (minimum of two times a month) and team meetings, as directed

  • Remain current on relevant research and evidenced based practices

  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect

  • Maintain client confidentiality according to state guidelines

  • Transport clients when necessary. A valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance that meets Options policy is required

 

Working Conditions:

  • Extended periods of time sitting or standing at workstation updating client records, phone work, and therapy sessions

  • Mobility and dexterity sufficient to assist clients and handle required job related functions and move about the facility

  • Ability to manage clients who may use challenging or offensive language with potential for escalation to physical aggression

  • May be required to work afternoons and some evenings.

  • Will travel locally with own vehicle. Must be insured with minimal liability insurance*

 

Salary:

Non-Licensed Provider Entry Salary $46,000 to $56,000 DOE

Licensed Provider Entry Salary $54,00 to $64,000 DOE

 

* Positions that require driving clients must maintain vehicle insurance as required by law, with a minimum of $100,000/$300,000/$100,000 personal auto liability coverage (proof of insurance will be required).
