About this position
The program specialist is responsible for working with child care providers toward participation in the organization’s Voucher-based programs.
The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, work both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone with an upbeat, positive attitude who is eager to support the organization’s mission and achieve its strategic goals.
What you’ll be doing
- Communicating with child care providers regarding rates of payment, as well as public policies and regulations;
- Effectively conveying regulations to providers, emphasizing that Options for Learning is not the employer, but a neutral third party;
- Assisting potential providers as they navigate their participation in the voucher programs;
- Objectively handling complaints involving child care providers that include highly sensitive subjects (abuse, neglect, racism, etc.), directing the complaints to proper authorities;
- Coordinating social services, counseling, health, and special education referrals with providers;
- Training providers in reporting requirements and regulations;
- Facilitating the flow of information between the program and providers;
- Developing child care referral resources in cooperation with the resource and referral specialist;
- Developing procedures and forms to support job responsibilities;
- Representing the program at professional organizations;
- Reading and implementing all organization and program policies and procedures;
- Accurately completing all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis, according to organization policies and procedures;
- Assisting the program administrator and parent specialist as needed;
- Performing other duties as assigned.
What you bring to the table
- Professional training in child development (may be college units, workshop certificates or other documented training as deemed by the organization);
- Ability to work well with people, with particular sensitivity to the needs of parents, providers and families;
- Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English;
- Bachelor's degree in child development, or a related field (preferred);
- Must clear livescan background screening;
- Command of Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin or Vietnamese (preferred);
- A California driver's license, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance (preferred).

Job specifications
- Reports to the program supervisor;
- Non-exempt, full-time, twelve-month work year;
- Eight-hour workday; Four-day work week;
- Opportunity for hybrid-work schedule may be available and to be determined by management;
- Limited evening or weekend hours may be required;
- Employment, responsibilities, compensation and other factors may be affected by changes in governmental regulations, the organization’s contracts, or at organization discretion.
Salary
- $23.00 - $37.00 per hour
