Overview
The Shift Coordinator is a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) who assists in the care and treatment of residents with psychiatric disabilities. The shift coordinator helps to organize residents’ daily activities by making staff assignments and coordinating daily activities. Assists with personal care activities including daily personal care documentation, and provides daily skills training activities to assist clients in meeting goals. Passes medications to clients as needed. Works with program manager to develop and implement staffing schedules. Ensures all shifts are covered according to agency staffing plan and seeks management guidance when necessary. Provides QMHA coverage for facility. Provides direction and consultation to line staff, with guidance from program manager. Problem solves issues and responds to crisis within the program and assists staff when needed.
Responsibilities
In collaboration with the program manager, develops facility-staffing schedule. Ensures all shifts are covered and works to fill any vacancies. The shift coordinator will fill in for vacant shifts by providing QMHA coverage and performing QMHA duties.
Assists residents with personal care and skills training activities, and documents these services.
Coordinates and assigns staff to resident care activities and activities. Develops and maintains therapeutic client relationships, with close adherence to client-directed services.
Administers medication according to physician orders within the scope of a QMHA as required by unit; keeps mandatory documentation pertaining to medication.
Acts as shift lead by providing direction and consultation to line staff in the program manager’s or clinical supervisor’s absence.
Provides timely accurate documentation using appropriate psychosocial terminology that meets or exceeds billing criteria. Adheres to the Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) and standards of care.
Monitors safety and security of the treatment environment per policy.
Assists in management of behavioral emergencies.
Plans and coordinates recreational activities and outings and involves residents in the events. Attends activities as needed to ensure their success.
Promotes social, dietary and hygiene skills; reports dietary concerns to appropriate parties.
Attends all mandatory meetings, participates in weekly individual and group supervision. Maintains positive working relationships. Works as an active and cooperative member of treatment team.
Transports clients to facilitate client-directed services and is required to drive.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s (BA/BS) Degree in a human services field OR three years of experience providing services in a similar setting with individuals who have emotional and/or mental disabilities and/or developmental disabilities, OR a combination of education and experience that provides the incumbent with the desired skills, knowledge, and abilities required to perform the job.
Must be a QMHA on the Mental Health & Addictions Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) registry.

Candidates must be able to use e-mail, compose documents, save and locate documents electronically, and learn to use our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Proficiency in Word and other MS Office applications preferred.
Must pass state-required background and DMV checks; possess a valid OR driver's license and a satisfactory driving record to transport clients. Candidate must be able to work independently and flexibly, under general supervision.
Possess mature attitude and sensitivity to the needs of people who have a chronic mental illness; understanding of HIPAA laws regarding confidentiality of privileged information; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to work independently and with staff as agency needs dictate.
