Optomi, in partnership with an industry leading financial client of ours, are in search for a Systems Administrator who will report to their Evansville, Dallas, Baltimore, or Charlotte Locations.
With a mix of break-fix support, server configuration, and infrastructure automation, this role is essential for keeping our systems efficient, responsive, and secure. You’ll work in a dynamic, highly collaborative team supporting a 95% virtualized environment that includes both Windows and Linux servers, with a growing hybrid cloud footprint.
This position is ideal for someone with strong scripting skills in PowerShell or Ansible, an understanding of cloud concepts (particularly Azure), and a keen ability to manage ticket volume in a high-demand environment.
Responsibilities:
System Support and Maintenance:
- Address and resolve support tickets using ServiceNow, focusing on both server and network-related issues.
- Perform server build-outs and break-fix tasks, with initial responsibilities centered on server configuration and troubleshooting.
- Respond to ticket requests for approximately 400 networking issues and 150 server issues, splitting server responsibilities with a teammate.
Automation and Scripting:
- Write and maintain scripts in PowerShell or Ansible to automate routine tasks and eliminate repetitive “click admin tasks.”
- Contribute to ongoing automation efforts as the team transitions to Ansible-based solutions.
Infrastructure and Upgrades:
- Assist with ongoing system upgrades and infrastructure projects.
- Build and manage Active Directory groups and directories, applying Group Policy (GPO) as needed.
Collaboration and Documentation:
- Work closely with a team of 9, including a manager, supervisor, network engineers, and operations personnel.
- Document all work thoroughly in ServiceNow and maintain references in Confluence for cross-team collaboration.
- Cross-train with server and cloud teams to broaden technical skills and learn new technologies.
Environment Details:
- 10,000 employees, 4,000 servers (30% Red Hat Linux, 70% Windows), with a small footprint in Azure.
- The team currently handles ticketing, and you’ll join as a key resource to balance the load and ensure smooth operations.
Must-Have Skills
- Scripting (PowerShell or Ansible): Intermediate scripting ability, with PowerShell experience and Ansible knowledge preferred.
- Windows/Linux Administration: Proficiency with both Windows and Red Hat Linux in a virtualized environment.
- Azure & Cloud Concepts: Basic knowledge of Azure and cloud infrastructure, with the organization moving toward a hybrid cloud model.
- Ticketing experience: Familiarity with Servicenow, Jira, Confluence or a similar tool is required.
