We are currently searching for an experienced Human Resources Generalist for our Jackson, MI location. As an HR Generalist you can expect to learn a wide variety of HR practices by supporting day-to-day HR functions and completing projects related to Human Resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Manages employee relations.
- Handles employee relations counseling and maintains open communication for employees.
- Performs employee service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
- Assist Plant Manager & Supervisors with employee issues.
- Administers Company’s Progressive Discipline Policy; conducts investigations and documents findings; Issues employee disciplinary warnings.
- Assists Supervisors in creating Performance Improvement Plans.
- Performs outplacement counseling and exit interviews, and processes termination documentation.
Maintains Recruitment and Onboarding efforts at plant level.
- Manages talent acquisition for exempt and nonexempt personnel (excluding managerial levels and above); writes and places job advertisements; and attends or holds job fairs.
- Oversees the employment of temporary employees.
- Prescreens applicants; schedule interviews and participates in the interview processes.
- Makes job offers; administers pre-employment tests; conducts reference checks and background checks; verifies I-9 documentation and maintains file.
- Conducts new hire orientation, and benefit enrollment for new employees.
- Prepares new employee files.
Monitors the Performance Evaluation Process at plant level.
- Generates and releases new hire and annual performance evaluations to supervisors.
- Approves performance evaluations and makes compensation recommendations.
- Monitors and tracks completions of evaluations.
Champions Employee Engagement efforts at plant level.
- Conducts Employee Surveys and participate in survey results workshops.
- Plan and coordinate employee events and recognition programs.
- Make recommendations and participate in the development of new employee engagement approaches.
Promotes employee Training and Development at plant level.
- Conducts new hire safety training.
- Assess employee training needs; work with managers and supervisors and assist with training development plans.
- Research training options, schedule and coordinate employee training.
- Maintains training Matrix and employee training files.
Maintains Human Resource Management System [ADP].
- Inputs employee information, status changes, payroll deductions, wage garnishments, benefit enrollments into the HRMS (ADP).
- Monitors Time and Attendance records.
- Assists in bi-weekly payroll processing, verifies payroll register.
- Compiles reports as needed.
- Becomes proficient with ADP modules.
Participates in departmental goals and processes.
- Attends departmental meetings; assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to establishing goals.
- Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
- Implements personnel policies and procedures.
Assists with Company’s Safety and Health program.
- Assists in monitoring safety compliance.
- Assists EHS Manager with incident reporting process, corrective actions, sending employees for drug testing, and supports disciplinary measures if needed.
- Places worker compensations claims with insurance company. Liaisons with workers compensation personnel for employee return to work plans; monitors the employee’s return to work status.
Admin Responsibilities
- Assists HR Manager with various research projects and/or special projects.
- Assists or prepares correspondence.
- Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings as requested.
- Helps to maintain company organization charts and employee directory.
- Creates forms or reports needed by supervisors/managers (ex. Probationary progress report, Employee Rosters, supervisor checklist etc.)
- Completes unemployment paperwork.
- Processes employment verification.
- Maintenance of DOT files
- Maintains Employee Files (scans and attaches employee documents into files).
What you need to be successful at Opus Packaging:
- Minimum of five years human resources experience.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gather and analyze information skillfully.
- Excellent Interpersonal Skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality, remains open to others’ ideas and exhibits willingness to try new things.
- Planning/organizing—the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
- Proficient with time management and planning skills. Ability to prioritize, plan work activities, develop realistic action plans, attentive to details and work independently.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills as well as good listening skills.
- Proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
It would be nice if you had:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or Business.
- Five to seven years human resource experience.
- HR Certification: SHRM-CP or PHR
- Proficient knowledge in ADP (payroll, HR Solutions, benefit administration).
