Job Overview:
The Winder Operator is a key member of a team that operates two production lines. In this role, you will work with your shift to safely produce high-quality products in a fast-paced, continuous operation environment. The primary responsibility is to deliver high-quality packaging and products for customers.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Plant and Environmental Safety:
- Follow all safety standards and meet safety requirements. Safety is a condition of employment.
- Take personal ownership of safe work practices and hold team members to the same high safety standards. "Safer Together."
- Immediately notify the supervisor of any accident, near miss, or injury, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
- Participate in safety, quality, autonomous maintenance (AM), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and housekeeping programs, including Focused Improvement Events, Safety Committees, Training, etc.
- Perform job tasks to minimize environmental impact and adhere to environmental regulations and recycling procedures for waste disposal.
- Comply with all plant rules and safety regulations.
- Perform cleaning duties at workstations and/or equipment/machinery.
- Communicate safety concerns or equipment problems to the appropriate personnel.
- Inspect vehicles and other Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIV) before use and throughout the shift.
TPM (Total Productive Maintenance):
- Participate in plant TPM initiatives and complete tasks associated with TPM (adhere to CILT standard, 5S). Be an active member of an AM or Pillar team.
- Apply TPM methodology to gain a deeper understanding of equipment.
- Participate in learning opportunities and develop expertise.
- Utilize Focused Improvement (FI) tools to problem-solve.
- Strive for zero injuries, zero defects, and zero losses.
- Use PM days to bring equipment to optimal condition for zero losses.
- Maintain DMS and AM Team Area Activity Boards.
Quality:
- Perform winder, EDL, and conveyor quality checks at specified intervals.
- Maintain control panel and adjust speed, delays, and other timers as needed.
- Interface with plant employees to provide quality control (QC) information.
- Monitor and report any unusual or suspect material issues outside specifications.
- Communicate with coater end operators and back-end operators regarding production and quality problems.
- Understand and react to upset conditions.
- Evaluate finished products for proper weight and/or thickness.
Productivity:
- Have a basic understanding of the product process.
- Operate winders and packaging machines on both lines.
- Operate banding equipment and print/apply pallet labels.
- Load and stack reworked material.
- Accurately manage and report scrap and seconds for tracking purposes.
- Relieve crew members for breaks.
- Manage trash.
- Respond appropriately to alarms and address signals.
- Assist in repairing web breaks and perform threading/product change procedures.
- Perform PM tasks during downtime.
Other Responsibilities:

- Show flexibility to changing priorities based on business needs.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Make decisions and know when to escalate for support.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
- Manufacturing or process-related experience preferred.
Essential Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
Physical Requirements:
- Flexibility in work schedule (rotating shifts and mandatory overtime).
- Ability to effectively perform up to 12-hour shifts in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Wear applicable/mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Exposure to temperature variations, noise levels, ink, dust, dirt, and fumes.
- Ability to perform movements (bend, twist, squat, walk, sit, stand).
- Lift, push, and pull up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to distinguish colors and shading.
- Ability to climb stairs/ladders or work from heights if necessary.
- Certification to operate a forklift (if/as needed).
Work Environment:
- Extreme temperature variation.
- Sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable (hearing protection provided).
- Prolonged sitting, standing, walking, or using full body movement for the process.

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
