Position Overview
Mt. Vista K-8 School in Oracle, Arizona is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Special Education Teacher to join our K-8 team. The teacher will support students with diverse learning needs in either a resource or self-contained setting. This role requires expertise in differentiation, Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, and strong collaboration with staff and families to ensure student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to meet students' unique needs and learning styles.
- Utilize differentiation strategies to support students with varying abilities in the general education and special education settings.
- Manage and document student progress using IEP-Pro software to develop, update, and track IEPs.
- Lead and facilitate IEP meetings, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws while fostering collaboration among parents, general education teachers, and related service providers.
- Provide direct instruction and intervention in alignment with students’ IEP goals in a resource room or self-contained classroom setting.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching opportunities.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
- Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as needed in partnership with school psychologists and behavior specialists.
- Maintain compliance with IDEA, state, and district policies regarding special education services and accommodations.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, administrators, and multidisciplinary team members regarding student progress and needs.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to remain current in special education best practices.
Qualifications & Skills
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with a Special Education Endorsement (Mild/Moderate or Severe/Profound Disabilities).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Experience with IEP-Pro software and a strong understanding of IEP documentation and compliance.
- Proven ability to differentiate instruction and provide specialized support in both inclusion and self-contained settings.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with students, staff, and families.
- Experience leading IEP meetings and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of behavior management strategies and interventions.
- Ability to analyze student data and adjust instructional approaches accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with K-8 students in a special education setting.
- Familiarity with Arizona state special education laws and compliance guidelines.
- Training in positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) or other behavior management frameworks.
- Experience using IEP-Pro software.
