The team is responsible for the architecture, analysis, detailed design, development, integration, test, and delivery of Oracle servers based on the latest high-end server-grade merchant silicon. The systems delivered are integrated as building blocks for some of Oracle’s market leading and growing Cloud Systems & Appliances.
The FPGA requirements of our next generation Oracle servers are very demanding with increasing focus on a high level of integration for our cloud and vertically integrated rack level solutions. This position is not in an FPGA service group but rather on a product team with full ownership responsibilities!
As an Electrical Design Engineer focusing on FPGA design, you will be responsible for system level and board level architecture and detailed design. You will take ownership of the FPGA work across all product development phases out to the transition to volume production. You will need to stay abreast of the latest developments in server technology and rapidly adopt & translate these into reliable FPGA subsystems for our Oracle offerings.
Qualifications:
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of engineering or related experience.Responsibilities:
The list of responsibilities (but not limited to) may include:
- Architect and partition FPGA logic.
- Design and Code logic needed for next generation cloud compute servers, storage subsystems and GPU systems.
- Integrate common code blocks into designs.
- Simulate FPGA design solutions.
- Achieve timing closure on FPGA designs.
- Validate FPGA designs.
- Debug board problems with a focus on FPGA debug levels.
- Work with various internal teams to assure the requirements of the system and FPGA designs meet specifications.
- Collaborate with internal firmware/software teams on implementing system level diagnostics.
- Bring up and test prototypes.
- Develop and implement test plans.
- Mentor Junior Engineers.
- Perform and lead Lab debug of HW/FPGA problems.
- Contribute to formal design processes, including requirements management and documentation.
Desired Skills and Experience
Job Requirements:
- Proficiency in FPGA architecture, design, modeling, simulation, and verification.
- Expertise in Verilog.
- System Verilog a plus and VHDL a plus.
- Proficiency with FPGA design tools such as Vivado.
- Experience with Simulation/Verification tools such as Synopsys VCS.
- Experience with RTL linter tools such as Real Intent’s Ascent Lint.
- Experience with I2C/SPI/eSPI/PMBUS/SVID/SGPIO/etc communication bus is preferred.
- Strong knowledge and application of high-speed design methodologies for FPGA logic.
- Solid understanding of digital design principles and synchronous design techniques.
- Experience with Logic level interface of service processors.
- Proficient in the complete flow of CAD design tools such as Cadence, Concept, Allegro.
- Proficient in constraint driven design methodologies.
- Working knowledge of circuit design and layout techniques, including analog, digital, programmable logic, and microcontroller technologies.
- Experience with the control and power sequence of high-performance CPU processors, GPUs, DDR memory DIMMs, PCIe Cards, Flash modules, disk drives etc.
- Strong working knowledge of Linux environment and scripting using shell scripts, TCL, Perl, Python, etc.
- Experience working as a team with other FPGA designers.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Experience with recent Intel/AMD/ARM chip sets and GPU is a plus.
- BSEE and 7 years or MSEE with 5 years FPGA engineering experience.
