Oracle's Hardware Development Organization seeks to add an experienced Lead Thermal Mechanical Design Engineer with specific experience in Liquid Cooling to work within its Server Development team in Santa Clara, California. As a member of this design team, you will have the opportunity to lead the thermal architecture of the next state of the art server generations for various Oracle programs, including cloud applications.
As a Lead Thermal Engineer, you will focus on the alignment of liquid cooling thermal hardware design with data center physical infrastructure. A knowledgeable engineer with extensive hands-on work experience on the latest data center liquid cooling technology and approaches practiced within the industry. A mix of technical breadth and depth is required to work cross-functionally with different multiple disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, and Software) to develop and set liquid cooling strategies and actual HW setup that are optimized for the entire rack. You will need to work with internal and external partners, and focus on design, development, manufacturing, and deployment of the next generation of world class liquid cooled hardware.

BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of engineering or related experience.Responsibilities:
Must have skills/knowledge/experience
- A minimum BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering (MS preferred)
- Principal thermal mechanical engineer with minimum 7-10 years of hands-on experience, with strong background in liquid cooling and modelling of high-end servers/racks within data center environments
- Senior level mechanical engineer to lead OHD liquid cooling bring up in SCA, and engineering verification efforts on various high-end GPUs/CPUs server configurations.
- Work with Senior mechanical engineers from concept, design, prototype, and production to ensure pumped liquid cooling solutions meet product requirements.
- Proficient with thermal modeling tools at component, server, rack, and data center levels
- Engineering analysis of liquid cooling assembly and fit-up engineering verification of various GPU and switch configurations in respective racks
- Directly work with cloud data centers in addressing their engineering needs in cooling todays and tomorrow’s high-end GPUs/CPUs electronics appliances
- Lead liquid cooling server/ rack designs to support engineering lab bringing and manufacturing tests.
- Aware of latest liquid cooling industry road map and key technology suppliers. Understand driving factors for deploying different liquid cooling technologies.
- Deliver a liquid cooling solution into production and be familiar with sustaining issues associated with data center pumped liquid cooling.
- Establish a good working relationship with outside suppliers to develop high quality components (e.g., heat-sinks, etc.), and manage thermal/liquid cooling vendor selection process.
- Oversee the build and validation test process of prototypes.
- Perform root cause and corrective action analysis as required.
- Interface with internal and external customers to meet product design intent.
- Maybe a member of ASHRAE, OCP, and/or other technical committees driving the liquid cooling landscape.
- Familiar with liquid cooling end assembly (L10/L11) manufacturing challenges
- Familiar with liquid cooling long term reliability concerns
- Familiar with commissioning liquid cooling server/ racks in data center environments.
- Support Operations Engineering and External Manufacturers (EMs) with manufacturing activities.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suites (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
- Communicate clearly and collaborate with coworkers in a team-oriented environment.
- Engineer to be collocated in Santa Clara, California, where the AI/GPU prototype platforms are located for hands-on work and directly involved within OHD product engineering development efforts (e.g., product, setup, tests, verification efforts, etc.)

- Familiarization with Data Center Cooling Design and ASHRAE Data Center Standards.
- Familiarization with Open Compute Design Specifications.
- Familiarization with Next Generation Liquid Cooling Solutions and Advanced Thermal Designs.
- Understanding mechanical design process to work with mechanical design engineers on all engineering development efforts.
- Experience with mechanical validation tests process that may include, Environmental Test Engineering (ETE), Vibration testing & characterization. Familiarity with Electromagnetic Compliance (EMI/EMC) is a plus.
- Experience in negotiating, establishing, and managing relationships with vendors.
