Surgical Assistant/Front Desk Reception:
Oral & Facial Surgery Center is a two doctor oral surgery practice with locations in both Joplin MO & Pittsburg KS. We are fast-paced, supportive, challenging and our goal is to provide the highest quality care and the most advanced surgical techniques in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Established oral and maxillofacial surgery practice with a reputation for excellence in patient care is currently seeking a full-time surgical/dental assistant (30-40 hrs/week) that would also staff the front desk reception desk. We are looking for a motivated, honest, and dependable individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others as part of the patient care team.
Surgical Assistant duties include: chairside assisting during oral surgical procedures; monitoring, recovery, and discharge of surgical patients under guidance of doctors and nursing staff; preparation of rooms and instruments preoperatively and room turnover postoperatively; instrument cleaning and sterilization; taking dental x-rays; preparing patients for surgery, including taking vital signs, review of medical history, and postoperative education; taking impressions; and equipment maintenance. Previous experience in these areas as well as CPR certification and DAANCE training is beneficial but not required.
Front desk reception duties include:
- Greeting patients and making an excellent first impression
- Manage the front desk area, ensuring a clean and organized environment
- Answering the telephone and properly scheduling appointments, answering questions, forwarding calls appropriately, taking messages
- Checking, sorting and managing email communications
- Entering and scanning information into the patient's electronic medical records
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, adhering to HIPAA regulations
- Sorting and managing incoming and outgoing mail
- Communicating effectively with referring offices for the coordination of patient care
- Any other duties as assigned or necessary
- Previous experience with dental/medical reception, dental/medical terminology, computer and EMR applications, healthcare insurance, and general office/clerical procedures would be highly beneficial.
Starting pay range is $18-$22 per hour and is commensurate with experience. Benefits include paid time off, paid major holidays, health insurance plans, participation in 401K and more. Full-time schedule is an average of 30-40 hours per week.

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Review patient schedule and correlating charts one day prior to ensure readiness for treatment.
- Opens office and operatories by turning on all computers, setting up sterilization for the day, and ensuring rooms are ready for the first treatment.
- Obtains and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of the patient and communicates this information to the doctor.
- Obtains dental radiographs and cone beam scans on patients and reports findings to the doctor.
- Provide a high level of patient experience through communicating comfort options, patient education, and treatment expectations.
- Assists doctors in the management of medical and dental emergencies.
- Provides post-operative instructions prescribed by the dentist.
- Maintains clinical notes for patients documenting pertinent information in the patient charts.
- Collaborates with front and back office to ensure doctors’ schedules run smoothly and efficiently in addition to communicating treatment plan with Front Desk team.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and procedures.
- Properly closes out operatories at the end of shift to assure operatories are clean and restocked and patient ready.
- Maintains dental & medical supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipates needed supplies, and communicates the need to the Manager.
- Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA.
- Assists with daily office cleaning responsibilities.

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
Surgical or Dental Assistant experience
Knowledge of oral surgery or dental practice and procedures preferred
Knowledge of dental radiographs
Knowledge of dental software programs
