Role and Responsibilities
The Sterilization Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of infection control by processing and sterilizing all instruments for daily use.
- Collects used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
- Manually cleans supplies of contaminants to ensure they are free from any potential risks.
- Operates and maintains decontamination equipment to guarantee optimal performance.
- Prepares and packages decontaminated supplies for sterilization to maintain their integrity.
- Conducts meticulous examinations of supplies to confirm they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
- Routinely tests and reports any issues or problems with sterilization equipment to prevent downtime.
- Sterilizes, prepares, wraps, and organizes equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures to ensure patient safety.
- Prepares and delivers all necessary equipment and instruments for procedures on time.
- Maintains accurate records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies to track inventory levels.
- Monitors inventory levels and orders supplies as needed to avoid stockouts.
Education and Experience
- A High School diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
- One year of relevant experience is preferred, but not mandatory.
- Certification in Sterile Processing and Distribution is an asset.
