Relationship Manager Training Program
Objective: To provide a training program that will teach employees the skills and knowledge needed to become a successful Relationship Manager and overall Banker.
Relationship Manager purpose/role: The Relationship Manager is responsible for the oversight of the branch or market, including developing business and managing overall bank business, at their location; support a branch and/or region by executing successful sales and developing deep client relationships to achieve desired business results; responsible for managing existing client relationships, developing new business, and referring new clients to all areas of the Bank, including Commercial Banking, Trust, HVIA and Private Banking, and managing a team of branch employees.
Goal: To prepare the trainee for a future Relationship Manager position.
Requirements: A minimum of three (3) years of Branch experience as a Business Banker, Assistant Branch Manager, etc. required.
Duration: 12 Month Program
Candidate Selection: Candidates will be interviewed by Human Resources, EVP, Regional President and select current Relationship Mangers.
Areas of Concentration:
- Deposit Operations/Cash Management Support (on site at HQ and possibly the LPO)
- Loan Operations (on site at HQ)
- Branch Operations (on site at various branch locations in Westchester)
- Credit (on site at HQ and the LPO)
- Commercial Lending Training
- Private Banking
- Hudson Valley Investment Advisors
- Special Projects may be assigned in an area during the training process
Training Methods and Tools:
- On the job training and rotations (may vary across all locations)
Training may be accelerated if the trainee previously worked in one of the concentrated areas at Orange Bank & Trust. Approval should be granted by Human Resources and the Program Leader.
- Training Checklist detailed for each Phase
- May be required to complete an external class
- Monthly Progress Reports with Trainee, Program Leader and Department Manager
Program Leader: Assigned Relationship Manager
Program Sponsors: EVP, Regional President & VP, Human Resources & Training Mgr.
The trainee reports to the program leader monthly along with the Department Manager of the Phase.
- Items are “checked off” as they are learned/ implemented and trainee shows competency in that area. Trainee’s performance is critiqued during/after each Phase of the program.
- Trainee displays the aptitude and attitude required for placement.
- Trainee displays the organizational skills needed to fulfill this position.
- Trainee builds on the foundation given to them in each phase of training.
- Trainee fulfills role according to the Bank’s needs.
