Job SummaryThe Specialist I is responsible for greeting and assisting range patrons and explaining and ensuring all range rules are followed. This position will also ensure all machines, targets, and clays are fully stocked and in good working order. Work includes mowing and landscaping of the range grounds, vehicle/UTV operation and maintenance, range supply inventory and handling, operation of machinery and various equipment, light construction and facility maintenance, other duties as assigned. Must be able to lift clay targets, target frames, and ammunition boxes while working in an environment having frequent exposure to high noise levels and follow personal safety precaution rules. The Specialist I is also expected to assist and support the other department divisions and programs.Supervisory responsibilitiesVolunteersEssential functions: EQUIPMENT OPERATIONOperate and maintain various equipment not limited to tractors and turf maintenance equipmentOperate and maintain skeet/trap machines and related equipmentSafely and effectively operate a 4x4 motor vehicle/UTV in an off-road environment in proximity to people and obstacles.Ability to operate common hand tools, power tools and small equipment safely.SUPERVISION/MISCELLANEOUSAssumes supervisory duties in the absence of higher ranking personnel and accepts responsibility of range in their absenceAssist with greeting and collecting of fees for range guests Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Reading skills to understand laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to the operation of the department and facilities.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, supervisors, and general public.Verbal skills to communicate effectively with staff, supervisors and the general public.Math skills to perform basic math to maintain financial and activity records.Computer skills to prepare reports.Ability to work harmoniously with co-workersAbility to lift 50lbsDecision-making and critical thinking skills, initiativeQualifications: Possess a valid Driver's LicenseA pending or current National Rifle Association Range Safety Officer certification required at time of appointmentPossess and maintain a current Red Cross First Aid/CPR and AED certification (training will be provided).Willing to non-standard hours, weekends and holidaysWilling to work overtime as required to complete work assignmentsEducation and experience: Possess a High School diploma or equivalent.Licenses and Certifications: Possess and maintain a current NRA RSO certificationPossess and maintain a current Red Cross First Aid/CPR and AED certification (training will be provided).PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires frequent physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching, or similar activities, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items.WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves moderate risk or discomforts, which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around or with moving vehicles, heavy equipment, and consistent loud noises. Employees may be required to use protective clothing and work outside in extreme conditions.
