The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County's most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students.

Job Summary
The Connections program operates year-round, serving students aged 3 to 22 who require extensive support. Our primary goal is to develop skills that enhance student independence in various aspects of life. We emphasize communication, vocational training, and academic development, with a strong focus on behavior management. Assignments typically involve working with students who face significant behavioral challenges in elementary, secondary, or adult transition programs.
Our curriculum covers academics, communication, social-emotional and behavioral skills, and motor development, aiming to maximize student independence across all areas. Establishing effective communication strategies for each student is a key focus. Additionally, students participate in Community-Based Instruction (CBI) to practice and generalize their skills in real-world environments.
The ideal candidate for the Paraeducator, Transition Behavior position will know behavior modification techniques, conflict resolution, and safety practices for a moderate to severe student population. This role may be assigned on a long-term or as-needed basis, either in a specific classroom or by providing one-on-one support, guided by individual student IEPs. Assignments often involve delivering behavioral support and helping students generalize their skills throughout the school setting.
Paraeducators in the Transition Behavior role work 7 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with program closures during school holidays and summer months.
We are currently hiring for multiple positions and eligible candidates will be placed on an Eligibility List for the 2024 / 25 school year.

Before receiving authorization to work in this position, the individual selected will be required to provide a current negative TB authorization, within the last 60 days, and submit fingerprints for the purpose of conducting a confidential background investigation and record check. The tests are arranged and paid for by OCDE.
