What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Social Services Technician position at Orange County Government?
The Orange County Department of Social Services has an opening for a Community Social Services Technician. This position is responsible for providing assistance and intervention to individuals, children and families. Work involves providing transportation and supervised visitation between parents and children in the foster care program. This position communicates regularly and directly with a team of social workers in the child welfare division. This position requires schedule flexibility as the hours adapt to program participants’ schedules which can vary. Work after 5pm and some weekend coverage is required. Work is performed under the general supervision of a unit supervisor or program coordinator with some leeway to exercise independent judgment with regular guidance. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.
Hiring range is based on the Orange County Social Services Step Plan. The Step Plan is based on years of Community Social Services Technician experience. Full credit is given for years of experience performing the same job functions. Partial credit is given for years of experience performing related job functions. The top half of the scale is reserved for career employees with senior level experience in the same role.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency AND one (1) year of human service experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a license valid in the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.

As with all positions with the Department of Social Services, this position may be required to serve in shelters in time of natural and man-made disasters including overnight and weekends. The duties assigned during this time may vary from your regularly assigned duties. Assigned duties will be at the discretion of the Social Services Director.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND POSSIBLE HAZARDS
Ability to physically perform (with or without reasonable accommodation) basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions of the hands/wrists.
Ability to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate a computer terminal, file documents and operate a passenger vehicle.
