Job Description
General Functions
Performs technical and clerical review of building plans and issues permits consistent with departmental regulations. This is a technical position with significant responsibility that requires sound judgment and excellent customer service skills. Work is performed with considerable independence under the supervision of the Senior Permit Analyst or Assistant Manager, Plans Review.
Representative Duties/Assignments
Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical/clerical experience including customer service; or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
Must have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with the general public while discussing, explaining and interpreting departmental policies.
Preferences
Demonstrated computer literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft applications.

Representative Duties/Assignments
- Assists with the issuance of permits, inspections, and plan submittal processes.
- Communicates and interacts effectively assisting customers in person and by telephone with policy and procedure associated with obtaining and completing building permits and/or fire system permits.
- Reviews applications for completeness and compliance with departmental requirements.
- Resolves customer’s problems and refers complex problems to supervisor as needed.
- Sorts and inputs inspection schedules and results.
- Accepts plans and checks for required seals, signatures, soil reports, documented calculations, cost estimates, and/or fire protection system permits.
- Stamps and routes plans.
- Implements zoning regulations in the review of all types of development permits, such as, commercial, residential and signage.
- Provides excellent customer service both personally and by telephone.
- Resolves complex zoning problems that require detailed analysis of site and architectural documents.
