The Orange County Planning Division is currently seeking a Student Intern who demonstrates a high level of motivation and the ability to balance on-going educational responsibilities with a variety of entry-level planning duties. Selected candidates will have a unique opportunity to learn about and be exposed to Orange County’s new Smart Growth and Sustainable “Vision 2050” Comprehensive Plan and “Orange Code” – a new form-based code that implements our new and innovative development framework. All work will be performed under the direction of a Manager or Chief Planner, with many opportunities to shadow or work with other staff professionals.

Job Description
Representative Duties
- Performs supportive research for on-going work program initiatives
- Conducts initial development application sufficiency reviews
- Prepares project-related graphics and maps using ArcGIS software
- Provides “Planner-of-the-Day” (POD) customer assistance; and
- Participates in meetings with stakeholders, special interest groups, homeowner associations, developers, and the general public.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent and working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, or similar field of study.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, with ArcGIS and/or AutoCad experience preferred.
- Must have strong organizational skills, be reliable, detail oriented, and capable of taking initiative.
