What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Aging Transitions Durable Medical Equipment Program Assistant position at Orange County Government?
The Orange County Department on Aging has an opening for a Temporary Aging Transitions Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Program Assistant. Under the regular supervision of the Aging Transitions Occupational Therapist, an employee in this temporary position is primarily responsible for assisting with the distribution, maintenance and organizing and promotion of a durable medical equipment programs offered by the Department on Aging to meet the diverse needs of older adults. An employee in this class will exercise independent judgment on a regular basis in order to assist with programming. Does related work as required.

Assess usability and safety of donated durable medical equipment (DME) items.
Sanitize, inventory, repair, transport, and manage storage of DME items.
Manage DME donation and loan database.
Communicate with community members and professional contacts regarding donation inquiries, loan requests, and general availability of DME.
Meet with community members in their homes to drop off or set up requested DME items as needed.
Coordinate and consult with OCDoA occupational therapist (OT) with related needs and challenges.
Participate as a collaborative member of the Aging Transitions team.
Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations;
Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments;
May perform other incidental tasks, as needed.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Familiarity with departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to create and maintain files and records;
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations;
Ability to prioritize and organize work;
Must have excellent communication skills both written and oral;
Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with co-workers, supervisors and management, vendors, and clients; must have excellent customer service skills;
Ability to use modern computer applications or other automated Microsoft Office systems such as Excel, Word, Publisher, Outlook calendar and e-mail, database software and other office machines in performing work assignments; ability to use the internet for research.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate’s Degree; OR
High School or GED and (2) two years’ of related experience in gerontology.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Background or field of study in related healthcare field, including OT, OTA, PT, PTA, etc. preferred.
Possession of a driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND POSSIBLE HAZARDS
Ability to physically perform (with or without reasonable accommodation) basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions of the hands/wrists.
Ability to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate a computer terminal and other equipment necessary to facilitate programs;
Works inside with protection from weather but not temperatures and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
