Receives, stores, preserves, disposes of, and transports criminal evidence and discovered property. #oj
Minimum Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
- U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
- Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
- No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) AND one (1) year experience in records, inventory, or a related field preferred.
- Must have a valid Florida driver's license.
- Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving an agency vehicle. Use of an agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing the agency biennial driver's physical exam.
- Must be able to complete the agency approved Forklift Operator certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Ability to collect, examine, preserve, document, or prepare human tissue, fluids, or physical evidence. Receive and collect evidence from various Evidence Intake locations within Orange County. Respond to call-outs to assist, organize, package and take custody of evidence from search warrants and other crime scenes as required. Preserve evidence for storage by verifying proper packaging, labeling, and appropriate storage controls. Document chain of custody, condition, storage locations, and enter data in the computers. Prepare evidence for analysis by initiating the required laboratory documentation forms and transports evidence to and from FDLE. Examine evidence for proper identification, packaging, bio-hazardous properties labeling, integrity, and proper disposal requirements. Maintain a large inventory of physical evidence not contained in hermetically sealed receptacles. 70% workload

- Ability toconduct and maintain inventory of firearms, drugs, currency, and general property. Audit evidence for procedural compliance. 7% workload

- Ability toremain available for call-outs to crime scenes in order to collect large volumes of evidence and confiscated property; transport evidence. 5% workload
- Ability toperform administrative functions to include record keeping, data entry, categorization, documentation, labels property, collate files, write correspondence, answer phones, and assist with the release of evidence and discovered property to the appropriate deputies and / or citizens. 10% workload
- Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend basic documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, correspondence, and memorandums.
- Ability to write simple reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to the general public and agency employees.
- Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Must be detail oriented and possess proficient organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize work assignments.
- Must have basic computer skills to include word processing and e-mail (e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel), and Evidence Inventory Databases.
- Must be able to maintain confidential and sensitive information involving evidence.
- Ability to transport evidence to include driving a cargo van and / or a box truck vehicle.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift 25-50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to fluids or physical evidence having potential biological, chemical hazard or contamination, in addition to, materials that may have carcinogenic or health-damaging properties to include : chemicals, narcotics, fumes, airborne particles, bio-hazardous substances, lethal weapons, firearms, blood borne pathogens, bodily excretions, contagious diseases (e.g., HIV, Tuberculosis, MRSA, Hepatitis, etc.), molds, and gas. Other duties may occasionally expose the employee to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasional on-call work is required.
