Salary Range: $57,907/yr - $88,961/yr Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.
Oversees the examination of crime and incident data. Supervises the evaluation of crime history and criminal activity patterns to identify trends for operational deployment, tactical intervention, strategic planning, and management analysis. Supervises and coordinates the activities of Crime Analysis by performing the following duties.#oj
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
- U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
- Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
- No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A. or B.S.) in Criminal Justice, Statistical Analysis, or closely related field AND two (2) years related experience and/or training in crime analysis, investigative, and/or intelligence analysis; or the equivalent combination of experience and education.
- If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
- Two (2) years of direct experience for an Associate Degree
- Four (4) years of direct experience for a Bachelor's Degree
- Six (6) years of direct experience for a Master's Degree
- Must have successfully completed the following: Crime Analysis Applications Training Course and State Certification of Crime Analysts. Must be able to be FCIC/NCIC certified within one (1) year of employment. Must maintain certifications listed above once achieved.
- Ability to monitor employee performance for accomplishment of tasks and objectives; review completed work assignments. Complete associated reports and evaluations. Analyze, resolve, or assist subordinates in resolving work problems and conflicts. Counsel and coach subordinates. Conduct employee performance evaluations.
- Ability to train/mentor new staff and other agency personnel.
- Ability to present crime analysis software applications, statistical presentations, or career pathing information to Command Staff, local universities, and at conferences.
- Ability to perform administrative duties to include correspondence, payroll, and statistical reports. Prepare and review reports and documents as necessary. Maintain confidential files, including personnel files.
- Ability to track and monitor designated personnel. Prepare and revise work schedules to ensure that sufficient shift personnel are available for workload demands. Review and approve time sheets and leave requests.
- Ability to analyze crime data to identify trends and patterns. Extract and compile crime data statistics. Generate descriptive crime statistics. Run NCIC/FCIC inquiries. Provide time-sensitive statistical data to the agency, general public, and other law enforcement agencies. Review information for various meetings.
- Ability to produce daily/weekly analytical reports for dissemination to the Sheriff, staff, other law enforcement agencies, and the general public. Prepare and/or present results of analysis to the Chain of Command as part of the sworn staffing allocation process.
- Must have the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Must have proficient supervisory/management skills to include the ability to multi-task and schedule.
- Must have knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistical analyses techniques and data presentation techniques.
- Must also have working knowledge of offense codes, geographic information system mapping, and geological profiling.
- Must possess investigation synthesis and integration skills.
- Must have the ability and willingness to effectively speak in front of large groups of employees, high ranking agency members, and community leaders.
- Must have effective communication and community relations skills.
- Must possess proficient leadership and interpersonal skills and be able to establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions and complaints from management, outside agencies, businesses, and the general public.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- May occasionally work with frequency distributions and correlation techniques.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must have computer skills to include basic word processing and presentation applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint).
- Must have advanced spreadsheet, database, mapping applications (e.g., Excel, Arc GIS), and development software programs skills (i.e., Crime Analysis Reporting On-Line [C.A.R.O.L.] and Criminal Research and Investigative Gathering [C.R.A.I.G]).
- Must possess information systems entry and retrieval skills.
- Must have the ability to research information. Must have the ability to learn and utilize specialized applications.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Ability to directly supervise employees in the Crime Analysis Unit.
- Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include participating in the interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Some positions, depending on the responsibilities, may require the candidate to successfully pass a physical or other selection processes when needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to handle or feel; and talk and hear. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is generally performed in a standard office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
