What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mosquito Control Field Inspector position at Orange County Texas Mosquito Control District?
Job Overview
This position is responsible for providing direct assistance to the Director as needed including assisting in pre and post treatment evaluation of adulticiding and larviciding programs.
Duties
- Collects and returns light trap collections to to office daily.
- Ascertains light traps are functioning properly
- Collects mosquito larva samples for insecticide resistance monitoring as necessary.
- Performs Larvicide and Adulticide operations as requested by Director.
- Performs duties of night foreman if required.
- Assists with any and all projects requested.
- Assists with training of Adulticiding and Larviciding crews as needed.
- Assists with maintenance of vehicles, equipment and facilities in winter months.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Statutory Requirements
- Must have a valid Texas Driver's License.
- Must obtain Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License with sub-category in Vector Control from the Texas Department of Agriculture, if not presently held by individual.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Six to twelve months experience in pesticide spray applications and related equipment used to perform such applications is desirable.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Working Conditions; outdoors during mosquito season and shop environment during winter months.
- Regular hours with some overtime required.
- Must be able to perform heavy physical labor.
- This position is frequently exposed to hot/humid conditions, extreme heat, extreme cold, outside weather conditions and potential to pesticide exposure.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
- Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

Specific Skills
- Good driving skills. Clean driving record.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, insecticide labels, safety date sheets, short correspondence, memos, verbal instructions and all safety rules and procedures set by Director, County Safety Policy and Federal and State regulatory agencies.
- To deal courteously and effectively with both co-workers and the public.
