Overview:
Under supervision, diagnose, maintains, inspects, repairs, and replaces electro-mechanical and electronic equipment such as fare collection equipment, destination signs, and mobile communication equipment.
The starting pay rate for this position is $33.87 an hour. Pay rate increases incrementally according to the union contract. Current top wage is $43.50 after 36 months.
The position will remain open until a candidate is selected.
Responsibilities

- Diagnoses and repairs electro-mechanical and electronic devices, including board repair of discrete components.
- Trains and/or functionally leads other electronic technicians.
- Diagnoses and replaces vehicle electronic related equipment.
- Operates test instruments, including oscilloscope, VOM, function generators, frequency counters, etc.
- Uses typical repair tools, including hand tools, soldering and desoldering, power tools, etc.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Performs diagnosis, removal, installation, and repair of vehicle communication equipment.
- Performs related duties as directed.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and/or experience equivalent to two years, which has led to the ability to perform the duties of this position. Up to two years of full-time training or education in basic electrical theory, repair, maintenance, and safety procedures at a recognized trade school. An apprenticeship program may be substituted for equivalent experience.
Knowledge of:
- Electrical, electro-mechanic, and electronic devices and components.
- Safe workmanship and acceptable industry standard practice.
- Schematic interpretation, symbolic logic, and flow charts.
- Test equipment and calibration.
- Function and testing of discrete analog/digital components.
- Basic personal computer operation.
Ability to:
- Use automated maintenance system.
- Train and lead other technicians.
- Work various shifts and locations within an electronic repair shop.
- Read and understand schematics, and the design, drawing, and fabrication of circuits, including a bill of materials.
- Use electrical, electro-mechanic, and electronic devices and components; test equipment and calibration; and personal computer.
Safety Sensitive:
Positions in this job classification are considered safety sensitive and are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including but not limited to pre-employment testing, post-accident testing and random testing, under Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations, and U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, 49 CFR Part 40 and Part 655.
