Job Summary: Responsible for operating bus route in a safe, organized, punctual manner. Must be able to perform job duties in all kinds of weather conditions. Responsinble for care and cleanliness of vehicle. Must perform pre-trip inspection before each trip and a post frip inspection at the end of each trip. Must effectively manage passenger behaviors in accordance with each person's approved Behavior Support Plan or ISP/IEP in the school bus/route vehicle. Must attend state mandated driver training annually as well as other in-services required of drivers. Responsible for all records and
reports required by agency/department. Perform any other duties assiY1ed by supervisors. Must be able to relate effectively, professionally, and appropriately with caregivers, staff, and the public in a multicultural/multiracial community. Hours worked must not exceed 40 a week, unless an emergency occurs and written approval is by the Transportation Coordinator and Division Director. Any Bus Driver working more than 40 hours a 'week, without prior authorization from the Coordinator and Director, will be subject to progressive disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Supervisory Relationships; Responds to Coordinator of Transportation and in his/her absence, the Assistant Coordinator of Transportation. May supervise the activities of a Bus Rider Assistant when applicable. Like all Orange Grove employees, the Bus Driver works for each person and family we support and serve.
Experience: Must be 25 years of age and have not less than five years driving experience with valid, unrestricted operator's license. Must possess a Commercial Driver's License with P and S endorsements. Must have an excellent Giving record. Experience working with adults and children with intellectual and physical disabilities would be helpful. Must have basic writing and recordkeeping skills. Newly hired driver who must earn CDL and/or appropriate endorsements must complete CDL training and acquire CDL license before the expiration of his/her 90 day probationary period unless special circumstances necessitate that this probationary period be extended and approval for this extension is by Transportation Coordinator and Division Director. Driver trainees will not earn school bus driver pay ($14.64/hour) until all training is successfully completed (Trainee pay is $12.97/hour.).
Technical Job Knowledge: Must have good knowledge of Chattanooga/Hamilton County area and a willingness to learn any applicable geographical area. Must have a good sense of direction. Must be well informed about all agency, local, state and federal regulations, policies and procedures concerning the safe operation of school buses. Must be able to properly use all transportation related equipment including but not limited to: wheel chair lifts, WTORS (Wheel Tie-down/Occupant Restraint System), web cutter, etc.
Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required
Physical Requirements: Health must be adequate to perform required duties and responsibilities. Must pass 'TDOT" physical examination yearly; twice a year if over age 55. Manual dexterity required; must be able to bend]stoop/kneel repeatedly. Must be able to push/pull wheelchairs of various weights and sizes. Must be able to safely operate hydraulic wheelchair lift.
