Children's Services DSP Floater
This is a Full Time Position Monday- Friday 8am-3:30 pm
Position Goal: To provide individual training and support in the acquisition, retention, or improvement in daily living, social, communication, vocational, self-help, and other adaptive skills.
Working Environment: Orange Grove Center is a non-profit community based agency that provides services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Adult Comprehensive Training (ACT) Department is one of a number of departments serving individuals ages 22 and older. The department operates year round, Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are assigned to training area to aid in the instruction of clients to meet their individual needs. Assignment will change from time to time. Mealtime is not separate from clients, and there is no formal break time. However, breaks can be given by the supervisor or as the work load allows. Training areas are climate controlled but outside activities are common.
Physical Demands: Some training areas require frequent lifting and moving of clients that are unable to move independently. Routine activities include positioning, assisting clients in the swimming pool, range of motion exercises, transfers to and from wheelchairs, full assistance in toileting and other personal care needs. DSPs in all areas frequently lift over 25 lbs. and occasionally over 50 lbs. Twisting, bending, and squatting will also be required. On occasion DSPs may have to physically restrain a client due to behavioral outbursts. DSPs are trained in behavioral management techniques that will help them to correctly implement specific behavioral programs.
Supervisory Structure: DSPs are usually assigned 1 to 5 clients to monitor and provide individualized instruction. During the absence of the CPC, DSPs are to provide the supervision for the area to ensure there is no break in the training programs. The DSPs direct supervisors are the CPCs. The A.C.T. Coordinator will supervise in the absence of the CPCs.

REQUIREMENTS:
- A standard high school diploma or GED is required.
- Social Security Card is required
- Basic computer skills required
- Ability to read and write the English language
- On-going background checks and random drug and alcohol screenings
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful completion of the required physical examination by an approved Orange Grove physician.
- The physical demands vary from residence to residence. Some of them require frequent lifting and others require little. Specifics about the position in question will be addressed later in the description. All applicants are required to have a physical and be found to be in good physical health.
