POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Dance, the Dance Instructor is responsible for teaching and leading the assigned ensemble and/or classes both on and off campus at previously approved events.
Reports to: Director of Dance
Supervises: None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provide supplemental instruction as assigned by the Director of Dance
- Collaborate with and accept guidance and supervision from the Director of Dance
- Assist in developing any specialized curriculum and/or audition rubric(s) specific to assigned discipline and oversee annual auditions for the assigned class/ensemble
- As assigned, responsible for all transportation, supervision, and management of students in any off-campus events previously approved by Director of Dance
- Attend scheduled rehearsal and performance events inside and outside the academic day, including nights and weekends
- Identify and assess the level of student instrument proficiency and areas for growth and development
- Confer with the Director of Dance and/or other administrators on student progress, behavior, and related issues
- Maintain stated student behavioral expectations as outlined in the Student Handbook
- If there are any problems, confer with the Director of Dance for next steps
- Adhere to all Orange Lutheran Standards of Conduct and Behavior as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Always maintain appropriate interaction with students
- This includes strictly adhering to the policies regarding communication in the Employee Handbook

EDUCATION
- BA Degree in Arts or a related field.
- Emphasis in related fields to job expectations preferred but not required.
- Higher education is preferred but not required.
EXPERIENCE
Two years of experience teaching classes, private lessons and/or ensembles; or any satisfactory combination of education, experience, and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties listed.
LICENSES, CLEARANCES, CERTIFICATES
- Valid Fingerprint
- Valid CPR and First Aid certifications
- TB Risk Assessment
- Ministry Safe Clearance
KEY COMPETENCIES
KNOWLEDGE
- Well-rounded knowledge of necessary pedagogy and dance history
- A level of artistic proficiency in specialized field
- E.g. Techniques of different styles of dance: Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Musical Theater, Contemporary, Hip Hop
- Familiarity with education techniques specific to each genre of dance
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Effective communication skills
- Effective classroom management skills
- Effective interpersonal skills with students, parents, and co-workers; maintains harmonious relationships
- Ability to work irregular hours

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must have the physical abilities to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above
- Frequently move about the campus, sit for extended periods, talk and hear, use hands to handle, feel, or grasp objects
- Occasionally stand, walk, push, pull, or lift, up to 50 pounds, reach with hands or arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, taste, or smell
WORK ENVIRONMENT

- The noise level is that of a typical quiet office setting with occasional exposure to moderate noise
