POSITION SUMMARY
The Food Service Worker performs a variety of duties in the school cafeteria and coffee kiosk on an as-needed basis. This position assists in the serving of food and beverages performs cashier duties, stocks and inventories food and supplies, maintains the food service facility and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition, and performs related work as required
Reports to: Food Service Manager
Supervises: None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Report for work regularly, on time, and prepared
- Handle food in a manner consistent with health department regulations
- Perform duties to open and/or close food service operations
- Stock clears, and organizes shelves, buffet units, refrigerators, and vending machines; and non-food items
- Estimate quantities of food/beverage needed
- Clean sanitize and organize equipment, work surfaces, café, kitchen, and student union according to cleaning schedules and procedures including:
- Sweep or mop floors
- Keep storage rooms, refrigerators, and freezers clean, sanitary, and organized
- Keep indoor and outdoor food service areas clean and sanitary;
- Empty trash as required
- Maintain assigned workstations in a clean, safe, and organized manner
- Perform cashiering duties
- Receive payment by cash, check, student cards
- Accurately enters orders in the cash register
- Make change accurately
- Count money in cash drawers ensuring accurate amounts and adequate change
- Receive, unload, and store shipments of food, beverages, and supplies
- Take inventory and maintain records
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Follow all safety regulations, reporting unsafe working conditions and injuries
- Work efficiently in a manner that avoids waste of time, food, or supplies
- Communicate cordially with students; observe student behavior, report problems as needed
- Maintain good working relationships with co-workers; support efficient teamwork
- Maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene and comply with school dress code
- Attend in-service training and education sessions as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
- High School diploma or GED
Experience
- 5 years related experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the position
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND CLEARANCES
- Cleared Background/Fingerprint check
- Valid CPR and First Aid certifications
- Cleared TB assessment
- Completion of Ministry Safe Training
- Valid ServSafe food handlers card (must obtain within 2 months of start date)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- The employee must lift, push, pull, or carry up to 20 pounds, squat, kneel, or bend
- Specific vision abilities include near and far vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The typical working environment is split between a climate-controlled indoor school cafeteria and an outdoor environment with exposure to varying weather conditions
- The typical noise level is moderate, but may occasionally be loud
