Our Customer Service and Billing Team plays a very important role in ensuring that all our customers receive and understand the value of our services.
OWASA is seeking a Billing and Collections Technician to oversee the process of billing, collecting, and recording utility payments for all residential and commercial customers while providing excellent customer service through accurate, consistent, and proactive customer service. The ideal candidate should have the desire to understand customer needs.
Examples of Duties
Duties include:
- Coordinate regular billing process for residential and commercial customers and transmit billing files to third-party bill vendor. Research and document issues discovered with notes entered into customer account records and investigate systemic issues.
- Review meter reading and billing reports and submit service orders for meter rereads, meter troubleshoots, and meter repairs.
- Prepare collections reminder notices and final bill notices. Research and process back-bills for unbilled water and sewer services.
- Serve as back up on customer service duties which includes assisting customers in-person, over the phone and through email; and back up for processing UNC bills (OWASA’s largest customer with many accounts and meters).
- Set-up and maintain annual billing, meter reading, and reminder notices; communicate system problems to OWASA Information Technology team or appropriate vendors, and test new routines and processes.
Typical Qualifications
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED plus specialized training in customer service, billing, or business. Minimum of three years’ experience in customer service and/or billing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Within one year of hire, earn Certified Client Service Specialist designation and maintain continuing education requirements (with support from OWASA).
- Positive attitude, a high level of attention to detail, and the desire to be part of an amazing team.
