General Description: The purpose of this job is to performs limited semi-skilled manual labor using a variety of hand tools, power tools and equipment.This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.Duties and Responsibilities: The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.• Provides assistance when necessary in emergency situations and during afterhours or inclement weather conditions.• Conducts general duties including: picking up litter from roadsides, installing fences, maintaining and installing signs, and moving county items such as voting machines.• Operates light and medium duty trucks and tandem dump trucks.• Cleans truck beds when jobs are finished.• Ensures that all the materials are the correct ones for the area for the area.• Cleans the drains at the transfer stations.• Uses compactor to compact materials.• Assist with heavy drainage repair and maintenance.• Provides professional and courteous customer service at all times to in-house staff and general public either by telephone, electronically, or face to face.• Dispose of low hanging trees, high grasses, and any other debris which may compromise the safety of drivers along the highways.• Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.Requires at least six (6) months of experience in the safe operation of light and medium trucks; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Physical Demands: Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): • Involves routine and frequent exposure to: -bright/dim light; dusts and pollen.-extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions.-extreme noise levels; animals/wildlife.-vibration; fumes and/or noxious odors.-traffic; moving machinery.-electrical shock; heights.Special Certifications and Licenses: • Must possess and maintain valid state Commercial Driver’s LicenseAmericans with Disabilities Act Compliance: Orangeburg County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
