General Description :

The purpose of this position is to provide support and technical assistance to County staff related to computer systems, hardware, or software. Respond to support requests, run diagnostic programs, and determine / implement solutions to those issues.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Duties and Responsibilities :

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Build, update and maintain the County's Website.
  • Provide technical assistance and support for incoming requests and issues related to software and hardware.
  • Respond to requests either in person, over the phone or remote connection.
  • Follow up with employees to ensure issue has been resolved.
  • Setup and install computers, monitors and printers.
  • Provide maintenance for payroll software and resolve errors with hand held scanners.
  • Run reports to determine malfunctions that continue to occur.
  • Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software.
  • Monitor daily system back-up to assure that all data can be restored if necessary.
  • Performs other duties and related work as assigned and instructed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :

  • Requires an Associate's Degree in Management Information Systems, Telecommunications, Computer Science or closely related field.
  • Requires two (2) years of experience providing technical assistance, systems maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Physical Demands :

    Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

    Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, dancing, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

    Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment) :

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to :
  • Bright / dim light; Dusts and pollen.

    Extreme heat and / or cold; Wet or humid conditions.

    Extreme noise levels, Animals / wildlife.

    Vibration; Fumes and / or noxious odors.

    Traffic; Moving machinery.

    Electrical shock; Heights.

    Special Certifications and Licenses :

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • Thorough knowledge of

  • programming languages and development environments;
  • scripting languages;
  • web server software such as IIS, Apache, and Tomcat;
  • database environments such as SQL Server; Structure Query Language such as SQL, PL / SQL or T-SQL;
  • principles and practices of systems implementation and software development.
