Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work out of our St. Louis, MO office. The nature of this position involves leading detailed engineering design, project execution, technical support, and customer relationship development. Additionally, this role will include the opportunity to perform in a project manager and project leadership position, so the ability to present and interface with clients is critical.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Field engineering and mechanical equipment inspections.General and working-level knowledge of typical heavy industrial equipment including but not limited to centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, atmospheric storage tanks, relief valves, manual valves, filters, strainers, etc.Experience in and application of piping, pressure vessel, and storage tank codes and standards such as ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, and API 650.Creating or overseeing the creation of equipment specifications, datasheets, and bid packages for equipment.Working knowledge and development of process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for the power, refining, petrochemical, and / or chemical industries.Experience using and selecting piping specifications for heavy industrial process services.Experience with piping flexibility, piping stress, and piping support design.Performing engineering studies, reports, calculations, detailed design documents & specifications, and project cost estimates; providing installation support services.Developing, maintaining, and upgrading technical standards and specifications for use on specific projects, as well as for use in Orbital’s centralized design and reference database.Completing all tasks in accordance with design and project execution procedures and guidelines, as set forth in Orbital’s corporate Quality Management System.Providing technical support for customers and supporting regional business development initiatives as a technical resource.Reviewing calculations, drawings, and reports produced by other engineers in the office.Managing progress of projects relative to established plans, schedules, and budgets.Overseeing performance of and reviewing hydraulic, pneumatic, and pipe stress analyses.Contributing to company improvements in workflow, methods of work execution, and technical standards.Establishing project design bases through interpretation of relevant industry codes & standards, including ASME, API, AWWA, CGA, etc. Familiarity with relevant industry design standards is preferred.Coordinating activities for projects which may develop into continued work for repeat business with established clients, as well as for expansion into other areas of work with new clients.Supervising work of other mechanical engineers and mechanical / piping designers as the discipline lead and at times functioning as a project manager, project leader, or process consultant.Interfacing directly with clients or a client’s representative, as needed, on current or prospective projects.This position will include some field engineering work and short duration travel will be expected from time to time.Field work may include work in elevated or confined spaces, use of filtering / purifying respiratory protection may be required in some situations, and noise levels may be high.Employees may occasionally be required to lift up to 50 pounds.Minimum Requirements :
BS Mechanical EngineeringMinimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of prior relevant engineering experience is required, with preference given to individuals exposed to heavy industrial environments and marketplaces.Current P.E. License in the State of Missouri or Illinois or the ability to receive one within the first two months of employment is required.Thorough understanding of and aptitude for the use of current computer software, including general Office products and design & business enterprise software. Software experience desired includes AFT Fathom / Impulse, AutoCAD, Autodesk Plant 3D, CAESAR II, Microsoft Project, Primavera, or ASPEN Icarus.Must have good interpersonal and client-facing skills.Must have effective written and oral communication, reasoning skills and ability to solve practical problems, and task management between multiple engineering disciplines.Preferred Qualifications :
