Comments: The Assistant Principal position is for the 2025/2026 school year and contracts start July 1, 2025.

About Orchard Heights Elementary School

 

Orchard Heights Elementary School is a child-centered, innovative school with approximately 550 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Our goals within reading and mathematics addresses intentional, data-driven instruction to prepare our students for success. Highly committed to shared decision making, our team continually reviews data, researches best practices, and adopts strategies that ensure our students continue to learn and grow. 

 

Believing that our school climate dramatically impacts student and teacher performance, our staff focuses on Social Emotional Learning, and teaching our students to be safe, kind, and responsible throughout the day in all settings across the school. We strive to instill a sense of belonging in all members of our Shark community, through a focus on building strong positive relationships and use of restorative practices over punitive consequences.

Education and Experience:

  • Valid Washington State Principal’s Certificate.
  • Master’s degree in educational administration or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years successful elementary school teaching or support experience preferred.
  • Academic background in staff supervision, staff development, and curriculum instruction.
  • Experience with trauma-informed practices.
  • Experience with supporting diverse student populations.
  • Leadership experience with special education programs preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional leadership and guidance for the elementary school program.
  • Be an effective leader and a strong advocate for the District goals and vision.
  • Operate with genuine concern for the welfare of all students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Make connections with a focus on building relationships with all students and staff.
  • Participate in the selection and the continued professional growth of all staff.
  • Subscribe to a shared decision-making model.
  • Implement, manage, and continually improve our school-wide behavior management system.
  • Commit to building a partnership with parents and the community.
  • Promote and support multicultural activities and programs for staff, students, and the community.
  • Promote and support a collaborative school culture.
  • Promote and support the values and vision statements developed by a community-based team.
  • Support the development of a school community that embraces the opportunity to successfully educate all students.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for parents, students, staff, and community.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Facilitate diverse groups in the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum and instructional programs;
  • Communicate effectively with a wide variety of groups and persons with both similar and differing agendas;
  • Effectively supervise and evaluate assigned staff;
  • Encourage excellence in all students, with a strong focus on student achievement;
  • Provide positive, energetic, and creative leadership;
  • Effectively manage student discipline, as well as taking time to recognize excellent performers;
  • Assist staff in matters of discipline, and in communications with parents, other staff, and community agencies/groups, and community businesses;
  • Work collaboratively with school personnel to ensure a safe learning and working environment;
  • Active experience in the coordination of special education programs and procedures, including IEPs and transition activities for elementary students.
