Summary/objective
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for administering the general accounting, patient business services, including third party reimbursement, financial and statistical reporting functions of the hospital in accordance with established policies and accounting procedures. This individual will set the vision and direction for both short term and long term budgeting, analysis and forecasting in strategic alignment with a high growth health system with operations in Gridley, California. The CFO will report directly to the CEO, will interact with the Board of Directors and an important member of the senior leadership team. This person will balance a strong vision for growing financial initiatives with a hands-on approach to managing the financial operations of a fast-paced and ever-changing organization. The CFO monitors the hospital's fiscal performance on realizing its established plans and objectives and identifies and reports undesirable trends with remedial action recommendations to the governing Board for final review and approval. The CFO assumes a lead role in exploring and implementing means of managing and improving the financial performance of the hospital as well as oversees internal accounting controls, all areas of receivables management, and other business office systems and procedures to achieve efficiencies in the business office. Pay: $138,000-$152,000
Essential functions

- Generate a monthly financial statements and reports which analyze all expenses, revenues and the balance sheet, including statistics and a 13-month running spreadsheet
- Manage days in accounts receivable to under 55 days; manage days in accounts payable to under 50 days
- Prepare reliable current and forecasting financial performance reports
- Ensure cash flow is appropriate to meet organizations operational requirements
- Ensure compliance with the law and company’s policies
- Control and evaluate the organization’s operational and capital plans
- In depth knowledge of corporate financial and accounting laws and risk management policies
- Develop and implement a vision for the finance team in alignment with the hospital strategic plan
- Manage and development of the annual and three year budget with department heads for approval by the CEO and board of directors
- Generate a monthly financial dashboard which accurately forecasts cash, revenue and expenses; help CEO and board of directors to predict trends and patterns
- Review and approve expenditures to ensure budget compliance and efficient use of funds
- Put all necessary systems and controls in place to manage the financial activities maintaining compliance with the highest ethical standards, all applicable laws, regulations and requirements of funders
- Install procedures to improve efficiencies and reduce expenses where possible
- Strengthen internal controls to manage cash flow and protect financial assets
- Oversee compliance with payroll and benefit administration
- Manage organizational insurance policies for property, liability, directors and officers, worker’s compensation, professional liability, and medical malpractice; negotiate annual renewal with vendor(s)
- Update and maintain compliant financial policies and procedures
- Able to assign and manage key quality indicators as it relates to financial performance of the organization

This position has hiring and disciplinary responsibilities for the following departments: Patient Financial Services, Accounting, Registration, Materials Management, Medical Records, Case Management/Utilization Review.
Work environment
This is an indoor position, usually in an office setting.
Physical demands
There is frequent sitting, walking, and standing required. Candidate must be able to lift up to 20 pounds above their head. Frequent rotation in standing or sitting. Frequent carrying items up to 5 pounds for long distances. Occasional reaching, gripping, squatting, kneeling, and balance required. Must be able to in English read, write, hear, speak, see, and differentiate between colors.
Travel required
Occasional travel required, sometimes overnight and long distances.
Required education and experience

- BS or BA in Accounting required
- Minimum 5 years of significant, progressive financial experience as a hospital CFO.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles as relevant to nonprofit entities
- Experience in revenue cycle lifecycle and ability to effectuate process improvement where gaps exist
Preferred education and experience
- MBA, CPA, FHFMA
- Prior Critical Access Hospital CFO experience
- Experience using Evident (CPSI) accounting and financial systems
