What are the responsibilities and job description for the CLS position at Orchard Hospital?
The professional Clinical Laboratory Scientist, in collaboration with the providers and other healthcare team members assumes daily department responsibility for clinical laboratory services. Works collaboratively with the Lab Manager, or designee, to provide timely, appropriate, and accurate clinical laboratory services and supports Orchard Hospital’s core mission to provide clinically excellent patient care.
Pay: $49.61-$59.53
Qualifications:

California licensed clinical laboratory scientist (CLS) current and in good standing.

ASCP or NCCL License preferred.

Prior hospital clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Current BLS certification.

Studer or other customer service experience preferred.
Job Requirements:
- Organize daily/shift work load and analyze patient samples/specimens per protocol/standard procedures with department wide support of department and organizational quality metrics, performance improvement, and pillar goals.
- Identify abnormal and/or critical conditions and values and take appropriate action per standard regulatory guidance or protocol/procedure.
- Perform and support/verify proficiency testing, quality controls, safety, performance improvement, equipment troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance for assigned laboratories; including all documentation and record keeping.
- Assure appropriate inventory and use of departmental supply and support coding and billing compliance in conjunction with financial services department.
- Supports appropriate knowledge and compliance with confidentiality standards and takes action for non-compliance. Supports department wide maintenance of a strong culture of patient and clinical staff safety with balanced accountability.
- Maintains thorough working knowledge and supports regulatory standards (e.g. OSHA, and other state / federal agencies), readiness for surveys, planned or unplanned and assists in training new staff and supervision of phlebotomists and lab aides as indicated.
- Demonstrates and ensures sustained department wide proficiency navigating through Orchard Hospital Health Information Systems (HIS) Chart Access, Evident, Relias, and Orchard Hospital Policies and Procedures.
- Support departments’ standards of excellence to meet and exceed nationwide benchmarks for Core Measure, Patient Experience and unit specific Metrics, to support Orchard Hospital’s CARE Culture of Excellence.
- Support department budget, quality indicators, infection prevention and control, safety, and compliance.
- Demonstrates effective communication with members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes; Attends and participates in all required in-service training and mandatory meetings (75% staff mtg).
