Orchard Park Will train you for your HCA and help you with the skills test. this is a 70 hour course manadated by the state of Washington. Taught in house here at Orchard Park.
Performs resident care activities and related nursing services necessary in caring for the personal needs, safety and comfort of residents as assigned. Assists in providing a physical, social and psychological environment which allows the resident to achieve the highest level of function. Perform duties in accordance with established resident services objectives, standards, facility policies and procedures, and resident rights.
Qualifications : Required
- Current Licensed Certification
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Current CPR Certification and First Aid.
- Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, families, community member and all levels of personnel.
- Knowledge of universal precaution

The criteria for bending / stooping, pushing / pulling and standing / walking must be met to be employed because they are essential functions and elements of the job.
Preferred : Previous experience in geriatric.

Personal Care :
Provide personal care for residents by assisting as needed or performing entire procedure when necessary.Bathe residents in bed or shower.Shampoo residents’ hair in shower. Groom residents’ hair as resident desires. Assist women with makeup as neededShave residents as needed using either a safety razor or electric razor.Brush teeth of residents daily, including partial or full dentures.Dress residents in clean and appropriate clothing, including underwear, stocking / socks and shoes for daytime and night.Admission, Discharge, TransferAssist in the implantation of admission, discharge and transfer of residents according to facility procedures under direction of Med Tech / Nurse.
Resident RightsKnow the residents’ rights. Help the residents exercise and / or protect their rights.
Become knowledgeable of residents’ choices and follow those choices accordingly.Report residents’ concerns to the RSD or Supervisor.Maintain confidentiality of resident information.Provide support for all residents to help them adjust to their disabilities.Preserve the dignity and comfort of the dying. 4Resident IndependenceAssist and encourage resident to be independent in areas of activities of daily living.Assist and encourage residents to be active for reasonable periods of time as permitted.Promote resident mobility through proper transfer techniques to / from bed, wheelchair.Assist with daily range of motion exercises. Assist with ambulation as needed.Transport residents from one place to another via wheelchair.May be required to offer and remove bedpans and urinals.Assist residents to use commode.Check, change and clean incontinent residents as instructed.Collect urine and stool specimens as requestedOn Rare occasions may be required to give catheter care.Mealtimes- (Assist at mealtimes.)Assist to dining room as necessaryDistribute and collect trays / mealsInstruct residents in use of self-help devices.Observe residents for difficulties in chewing or swallowing while eatingReport nutritional and fluid intake.Vital signsTake, record and report vital signs and weights using a variety of sphygmomanometers, thermometers and scales.Infection Control (Utilize proper infection control procedures and universal precautions)Practice proper hand washing technique.Handle clean and dirty linens properly, without contamination.Follow universal precautions procedures : use protective equipment and properly dispose of contaminated wastes.Environment and safety (assure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for the resident.)Ensure pendants are in use.Place call lights within reach of residents and answer call lights promptly.Demonstrate proper use of equipment. Report equipment needs or repairs immediately.Clean equipment and utility areas as assigned.Observe proper ventilation, temperature, light and noise level for day and night activities.Report any incidents or accidents to the RSD or Supervisor.Keep the resident living area neat and orderly; personal care items stored properly, clothing hung in closets or placed in soiled bins as appropriate.Assist in fire control and resident evacuation during fire or disaster emergencies.After Receiving CPR training, must be able to be a first responder in a medical emergency; e.g. initiate and continue CPR until emergency help arrives.Observations and ReportingReport at beginning and end of each shift.Perform and document resident care activities according to written and verbal instructions from the RSD or supervisor.Coordinate work assignment with other resident activities such as therapy, doctor appointments, activities, etc.Observe residents for changes in behavior or condition and report all pertinent information to the RSD or supervisorService plansParticipate in the development and implementation of resident service plans according to facility policy and procedures. Keep informed of revision in care plans through participation in mini- conferences.Hospitality and DignityMaintain friendly, helpful attitude toward residents, their families, staff, volunteers and visitors.Maintain a consistent attendance record to ensure proper resident care.
