CNC Operator with a Lathe Focus

CNC Machine Operator ensures machinery is set up properly and produces parts that meet drawing tolerances as well as company quality, quantity, and efficiency standards.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Sets up and operates machines according to instructions, specifications, and standard charts.
• Follows standard work and standard processes developed by Orchard-Rite.
• Reads and understands drawings, work orders, and other internal standards to produce conforming parts.
• Changes out and sets up tooling and inserts.
• Prepares fixtures, starts machines, and engages feed.
• Observes each machine to verify quality performance.
• Verifies measuring instruments such as gauges, calipers, and micrometers are in proper working order.
• Inspects and records critical part dimensions per inspection drawings.
• Maintains quality through inspection of work and attention to detail.
• Uses forklift to move material as required.
• Reports nonconformances and issues to Team Lead.
• Sets and adjusts necessary controls to regulate machines.
• Cleans work area, including machine internals to ensure machine longevity.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Thorough understanding of CNC machine operation and subtractive manufacturing processes.
• Ability to follow written instructions, diagrams, and drawings.
• Ability to follow proper safety protocols.
• Detailed oriented and consistent.
• Must be able to communicate in English.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational school diploma highly preferred.
• At least one year of experience as a machine operator is required.
• At least one year of experience as Lathe operator required.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to tolerate long periods of repetitive motion.
• Must be able to tolerate long periods of standing.
• Must be able to work in noisy environments.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, and climb to access all parts of the machine.
