Job Summary:
Orchard Therapeutics is a global gene therapy leader dedicated to transforming the lives of people affected by rare diseases through the development of innovative, curative cell and gene therapies. Reporting to the VP, Head of Business Development, the successful candidate will play a key role supporting the development and implementation of Orchard’s business development strategy. The role requires a tenacious individual with a passion for cutting-edge science, strong analytical and organizational skills, and a highly collaborative style.
Responsibilities
· Business Development (BD)
o Proactively builds the understanding of key activities and strategic goals of each R&D functions and program teams, and helps identify business development opportunities to support them
o Supports the evaluations of selected external innovation technologies and therapeutic programs in terms of mode of action, preclinical data, proposed clinical benefit, manufacturing, regulatory strategy, clinical development path, intellectual property and commercial potential
o Co-ordinates the due diligence process for in- and out-licensing activities with relevant functions: project management of evaluation teams, setting meetings, tracking progress coordinating the creation of reports; supports the structuring, negotiating and execution of term sheets and agreements
o Maintains BD activity trackers for periodical business reviews with the Senior Management team, organizes BD Department documents, provides logistical support for the Contract Management Database, and manages departmental invoices and payments
· Competitive Intelligence
o Monitors external programs and technologies in Orchard’s fields of interest and reports findings in written summaries and/or presentations
o In collaboration with the Head of BD and other stakeholders (e.g., the Program Leaders), provides up to date, comprehensive, and informed overviews of Orchard program’s competitive positioning, derives insights and develops presentations and recommendations for the Program Strategy Teams and the Senior Management Teams
o Provides preliminary Freedom to Operate (FTO) analysis on proposed technologies and programs and co-ordinates legal reviews as needed
Knowledge & Experience
· Experience and relevant knowledge of key therapeutic areas: hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, cell and gene therapy, neurology, or genetics
· Minimum 5 years of biotech and biopharma industry experience required
· Prior multi-disciplinary experience such as business development, life science consulting, program management, or alliance management preferred
· Financial modeling experience desirable
Skills & Abilities
· Self-driven with strong analytical and organizational skills to execute tasks & coordinate due diligence reviews with minimum oversight in a fast-paced environment
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate within the team and to convey recommendations to key stakeholders and potential partners of various cultural backgrounds
Education
· Strong educational background in science with post-graduate qualifications including PhD, MD, MS, JD, MBA, or similar from leading academic institutions
