About The Role
Orchard is looking for a Senior Mortgage Underwriter to join our expanding team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our loans meet GSE and internal loan requirements. You will need to work fast and efficiently, while maintaining exceptional quality and communication with internal partners.
This is a full time role that will report into the Senior Mortgage Operations Manager. This position can be remote in any of the Orchard hiring locations (AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, MI, NC, NV, NY, TN, TX, WA.)

About The Role
Orchard is looking for a Senior Mortgage Underwriter to join our expanding team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our loans meet GSE and internal loan requirements. What You’ll Do Here:
- Review Conventional Mortgage and clearly communicate the loan decisions and/or requirements to all parties
- Maintain manager approved turn times on mortgage applications, while being able to prioritize urgent files that are at risk of missing key loan milestones
- Maintain working knowledge of underwriting guidelines and mortgage compliance, while staying current on all GSE updates
- Act as a mentor and coach to our Loan Processors, and provide working solutions to our Loan Officers to improve file quality and salability
- Provide administrative support to the underwriting department on special projects or product development, as needed
- Foster a team environment that is in line with Orchard Values and Culture
- 5 years of experience underwriting conventional 1st mortgage loans
- 2 years of underwriting appraisals
- 2 years of underwriting Self Employed borrowers using a cash flow analysis
- A DE from FHA and SARS with VA is required
- Ability to manage and monitor your loan pipeline while working independently
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and collaboration skills
- Ability to quickly learn new technology systems, and provide critical feedback
- Experience working with Google Suites is helpful
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in relating to internal and external clients
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high production environment
