Summary
Perform general repair and preventive maintenance work on the semi-trailer fleet. Troubleshoot and repair equipment, utilizing electrical, welding, carpentry, and general mechanical skills.
Schedule
- 8 to 10-hour shifts between 5 am and 8 pm depending on trailer needed and availability.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- General repair and maintenance of trailer mechanical and electrical systems, hubs, bearings brakes, lift-gate, lighting systems, body skin, roof, doors, floors and all other trailer components.
- Utilize diagnostic tests to troubleshoot equipment failures
- Safely operate all required equipment and utilize safety devices
- Operate a forklift and tractor-trailer
- Operate a scissor lift around a trailer.
- Safely and efficiently use various hand and power tools
- Hook & unhook tractor-trailer combinations and maneuver in yard
- Safely and efficiently use a welder and oxygen/acetylene cutting tools
- Perform the DOT required periodic vehicle and brake inspections of trailers
- Perform mobile service calls as directed.
- Complete work orders and data entry through OBRC managed fleet software.
- Adherence to proper personal protective equipment (PPE) standards, such as wearing safety glasses, use of hearing and hand protection, and wearing high visibility clothing when required
- Adhere to all OSHA Safety Standards and OBRC policies
- Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience
- 3 years’ experience, 5 years preferred, in industrial mechanics, welding, and hydraulic syst
- Qualified to conduct DOT Annual inspections with certification
- Welding Certification (AWS, SMAW, MIG, TIG)
- ASE Certification (T4 – Brakes, T5 – Suspension & Steering, T6 – Electrical/Electronics)
- A valid Class C driver's license for at least 2 years. (Class A preferred)
Requirements – Skills, Job Knowledge & Abilities
- Use hand, power and pneumatic tools and machines
- Use welder and oxygen/acetylene cutting tools
- Ability to complete forklift training class and obtain certification
- Prioritize project completion to reflect the department’s needs
- A current driver's license and acceptable driving history (under 3 moving violations/accidents in the last 3 years)
- Work varying shifts, additional hours and/or overtime depending on service needs

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Work indoors/outdoors in various temperatures and weather conditions.
- The environment is noisy/loud requiring the use of hearing protection
- Exposure to cleaning materials, petroleum products, dust and dirt
- Frequently lift/carry up to 50 lbs. Occasionally lift/carry 100 lbs. with team-lift assistance.
- Stand, walk, and turn/pivot frequently. Seated work is rare.
- Use arms, wrists, fingers, and hands, to reach, grasp objects, operate machinery, tools and controls
- Simple hand grasping, power hand grasping, fine hand manipulation, reaching from foot level to above shoulder level as necessary
- Bend, stoop, crouch, squat, climb and balance
- Speak to communicate effectively with others
- Listen to interpret comments and instructions received
