School Summary
Oregon Charter Academy (ORCA) is a virtual public school serving students in grades K–12 throughout the state. Teachers at ORCA are student-focused, adapting to meet students’ educational needs through personalized learning using our high-quality curriculum and the teaching of 21st-century skills. ORCA is authorized by the Santiam Canyon School District and governed by its independent charter school board. The school has been in operation since 2005 and is accredited through Cognia.
Position Responsibilities
The K-8 Assistant Principal will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:
Manage the implementation of curriculum and school operations;
- Ensure that teachers exhibit and maintain a high level of professionalism, instructional support, customer service, and integration of career awareness and readiness activities into their subject area and courses as appropriate;
- Ensure the academic success of individual students by utilizing all levels of academic support available and by maintaining a high level of communication with parents to deliver program information and address individual student needs;
- Assist teaching staff with implementing any program changes and/or new software application introductions;
- Exhibit high-quality communication with staff, students, and families;
- Implement and maintain a code of acceptable student behavior
- Manage issues escalated by parents, students, and/or staff;
- Maintain focus on School Improvement Plan;
- Collaborate with K-8 Leadership Team and implement Principal’s direction at both K-5 and Middle School;
- Participate in weekly school Leadership Team meetings;
- Collaborate with the school Leadership Team in ways that advance the school’s initiatives & action plans;
- Provide assistance to families in need of additional support and encourage a high level of participation;
- Participate in student recruitment efforts including in-state trips, presentations, Q & A sessions;
- Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a “school community”;
- Support the work of the grade level team leads, curriculum coaches, and advisory team leads as needed, and focus all groups on the mission of the school;
- Recruit, supervise, and evaluate school staff as required by the state; and
All other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Hold Oregon Administrative license.
- Master’s Degree.
- Current First Aid Card
- At least three years of supervisory experience is preferred.
- Strong technology skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods, best practices, and state curriculum framework
- Student- and customer-focused approach.
- High degree of flexibility.
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel on occasion.
- Ability to work remotely.
- Ability to work occasional evening hours, as needed.
