Description:
This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing an engaging and effective at-home reading program for students in Pre-K through 3rd grade during the summer months in collaboration with the K12 Literacy Specialist. The coordinator, a licensed K-3 teacher, will design a comprehensive program that fosters a love of reading and prevents summer learning loss. This includes selecting age-appropriate books, creating interactive reading activities, developing caregiver resources, and providing ongoing support to families. The coordinator will manage program logistics, communicate regularly with parents, and assess student participation and progress to ensure program success. This role requires creativity, strong organizational skills, and a passion for early literacy.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
Program Development and Design:
- Develop a comprehensive and engaging at-home reading program for Pre-K through 3rd grade students.
- Select age-appropriate and diverse books and reading materials.
- Design interactive reading activities, challenges, and incentives to motivate students.
- Create a program schedule and timeline.
- Incorporate strategies to prevent summer learning loss.
Resource Creation and Management:
- Develop resources, including reading tips, activity ideas, and book recommendations.
- Create student reading logs, activity sheets, and other program materials.
- Organize and distribute program materials to participating families.
- Create digital resources, when applicable.
Parent Communication and Support:
- Communicate regularly with families through newsletters, emails, or online platforms.
- Provide guidance and support to families on how to effectively support their child's reading.
- Answer questions and address concerns related to the program.
- Facilitate family involvement and engagement in the program.
Student Engagement and Progress Monitoring:
- Develop strategies to encourage student participation and engagement in the program.
- Monitor student reading progress through reading logs, activity submissions, or other methods.
- Provide feedback and encouragement to students.
- Assess the effectiveness of the program and make adjustments as needed.
Program Coordination and Implementation:
- Manage program logistics, including registration, material distribution, and communication.
- Coordinate with school staff or volunteers to support program implementation.
- Maintain accurate records of student participation and progress.
- Organize virtual or in-person meetings as needed.
Evaluation and Reporting:
- Evaluate the overall effectiveness of the at-home reading program.
- Gather feedback from parents and students to inform program improvements.
- Prepare reports on program participation and student progress.
- Provide data on summer reading loss prevention.
Qualifications
- Licensed Oregon Educator Preferred
- Multilingual applicants preferred
