POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Operations Technician (Seasonal, Full-Time)
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for ensuring that visitors, staff, and volunteers have a safe and enjoyable experience at the Aquarium. Provides high-quality customer service while working as a team to aid in day to day functions of the facility.
1. Assists with ensuring that the Aquarium is ready to open and close each day; turns on lights and systems, prevents access to behind-the-scenes areas, locks and unlocks doors, ensures general facility is in operational condition.
2. Makes rounds and maintains a constant presence within the facility to answer questions, provide assistance, and enforce policies for visitors. Policies should be enforced through positive contact with visitors.
3. Monitors live animal presentations.
4. Responds to first aid calls and contacts outside assistance when necessary.
5. Prepares incident and accident reports as necessary to document situations and actions taken, in accordance with OR-OSHA and SAIF standards.
6. Notes and removes possible unsafe and unsightly conditions. Maintains effective communication with departments involved.
7. Completes monthly checkups on safety equipment including AEDs, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, emergency showers and emergency eye wash stations.
8. Assists with emergency drills including but not limited to fire drills and tsunami drills. Writes, files, and maintains appropriate reports and records for these drills and/or events.
9. Assists with the Aquarium’s lost and found program.
10. Initiates pass-on information with TCB Security and appropriate Aquarium staff and/ or volunteers.
11. Conducts weekly collections from penny smashers, donation boxes, and feminine hygiene dispensers.
12. Calls appropriate staff from other functions to respond to situations as necessary. Aids in communication between departments. Communication via radio, phone, email.
13. Assists staff from varying departments with daily tasks as needed/ upon availability. This may include standing in for admissions staff or completing restroom checks for custodial staff.
14. Delivers mail to Aquarium receptionist and receives packages from carrier. Facilitates deliveries from freight lines and outside venders.
15. Monitors all coin smashers and vending machine bill acceptors and performs necessary cleaning.
16. Climb ladders. Carries equipment up or down ladders.
17. Work in inclement weather throughout the day.
18. Walk an average of 8-10 miles a day.
19. Ability to lift 50 lbs and utilize a hand truck.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities (minimum levels)
Minimum one year experience in customer service required. Current first aid and CPR certification is preferred. A valid Oregon driver’s license is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required. Must be able to climb ladders and lift up to 50lbs at a time. Must be able to walk long distances and stand for long periods of time. Strong sense of problem solving, organization, and conflict resolution desired. Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Approved applicants will be subject to a criminal history background check.
