POSITION TITLE: Seasonal Dive Staff
REPORTS TO: Dive Safety Officer
HOURS OF WORK: This position is funded for 4 consecutive months, starting as early as May 1, 2025, or ending as late as September 30, 2025. Strong preference will be given to those candidates who can start as close to May 1st as possible.
JOB SUMMARY: The Seasonal Dive Staff, under the direction of the Dive Safety Officer and Assistant Dive Safety Officer, assists in supervising the exhibit dive safety program, including overseeing and enforcing dive safety policies, following AAUS and OSHA guidelines for all divers and dive activities under the auspices of the Aquarium. The candidate is responsible for assisting with the volunteer & staff Dive Program and for performing various daily tasks required by the dive program.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Supervise exhibit dives (35%): As surface personnel, monitor SCUBA and hookah exhibit dives and maintain readiness to manage emergencies should they occur. Complete air-fills of SCUBA cylinders.
2. Perform exhibit dives (20%): As a diver, complete animal husbandry exhibit dives. These include cleaning, feeding, and related tasks. All the necessary diving equipment will be provided.
3. Assist in Rescue Drills and Trainings, and miscellaneous Dive Program tasks (15%): Assist DSOs with implementing rescue drills and training as required. Miscellaneous tasks may include documentation, general upkeep of dive program equipment, assisting DSOs with prepping or breaking down for fieldwork equipment and research vessel, etc.
4. Husbandry tasks (30%): Assist with routine animal husbandry tasks, including but not limited to: opening and closing rounds, food prep, feeding, siphoning exhibits, maintaining life support equipment, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Must hold a minimum SCUBA certification level of Rescue Diver from a recognized SCUBA recreational training organization (PADI, NAUI, SSI, etc.) An AAUS Scientific Diver authorization may substitute for this requirement. Certification as Divemaster certification is a preferred qualification for this posting.
· Must have cold water diving experience and have logged at least 40 total dives
· Must be able to pass an AAUS medical and swimming examination
· Must be able to obtain physician sign-off on the OCAq Dive Program Description of Work form.
· Preferred qualification: certification in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen First Aid for divers
· Must be able to work weekends and holidays and some evenings if necessary
· Public speaking skills are required in small groups and with the public
· Must be able to exercise care and judgment when working in exhibits with animals
· Must be agile with a good sense of balance in order to maneuver around the exhibits and lift 50 pounds
· Must be able to don & doff SCUBA and diving exposure equipment without assistance and enter & exit the water in full SCUBA and diving exposure equipment without assistance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Compliance with appropriate company standards is required.
