Department / Unit : Academic Affairs

Status (exempt / non-exempt) : Exempt

Salary : $83,284-$86,649 annually

Reports to : Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs (VPASA)

Percentage : 100%

Annual / Academic year : Annual (12 month)

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Dean of Academic Pathways and CTE has significant responsibility for leading the strategic direction and the day-to-day administrative operations of Academic and Student Affairs. This position works closely with the VPASA, Dean of Academic Foundations & Student Success, full- and part-time faculty, and the Academic and Student Affairs support staff, to ensure the effective delivery of academic programs and student learning.

    The Dean has primary responsibility for full and part-time faculty and works closely with the Dean of Academic Foundations & Student Success to develop and implement the instructional schedule, instructional support, and guidance to faculty. The position works collaboratively with the Academic & Student Affairs leadership team regarding distance learning, academic integrity, high school and degree partnerships, catalog, scheduling, and curriculum input. Faculty are supported in curriculum development and assessment.

    This position provides input on planning, implementing, evaluating, and continuously improving administrative processes. Supervises the hiring, evaluation, and continued employment of faculty and assigned staff pursuant to the collective bargaining agreements.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS

  • Collaboratively develop, review, and coordinate information sharing for the creation of the course catalog.
  • Coordinate activities of course scheduling allowing for schedule review and updates within established timelines.
  • Facilitate new faculty and staff orientation and mentoring opportunities.
  • Oversee, develop, maintain, and recommend policies, procedures, or practices to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs.
  • Participate in grant seeking, selection, application, and implementation for academic program development and enhancement of student supports.
  • Accreditation

  • Ensure areas are fulfilling NWCCU standards and recommendations in a synchronized and timely manner.
  • Provide direction and coordination of program-level accreditation standards.
  • Ensure compliance and communication of accreditation standards in daily work.
  • Compile and review required reporting within established timelines.
  • Support the SPARE and SPARC review process for instruction and program areas.
  • Academic Affairs

  • Staff and implement the instructional schedule for all faculty.
  • Support the CTA (Confirmation of Teaching Assignments) process to ensure communication and support of course material and syllabi processes.
  • Provide support to curriculum development and delivery.
  • Develop, recommend, and collaboratively work to implement systems improvements in educational programs and instructional delivery systems.
  • Actively support the academic relationships with school districts and other institutions of higher education.
  • Support the faculty component of dual credit.
  • Serve as the OCCC resource for community partners.
  • Support CTE (Career and Technical Education) programs through ongoing training, collaboration at state and local level, and attending CTE-related meetings.
  • Represent OCCC on various CTE state working groups.
  • Monitor and advise the VPASA and President on capacity to implement institutional specific or state articulated transfer programs and common course numbering agreements.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with higher education institutions, community, state, and national organizations that support academic programs.
  • Tutoring Services

  • Provide oversight for the tutoring services.
  • Maintain and reconcile detailed records of tutoring data for required reporting.
  • FACULTY AND STAFF MANAGEMENT

    Recruitment

  • Manage and actively participate in the recruitment process for faculty (full and part time) and non-instructional staff positions.
  • Supervision

  • Provide supervision to direct reports.
  • Document schedules of work, time on campus, workload, office hours, and professional responsibilities.
  • Review training, conference / meeting, and professional development requests.
  • Provide ongoing feedback on performance.
  • Assessment / Evaluation

  • Ensure evaluations are completed within established assessment practices for faculty and non-instructional direct reports.
  • Complete faculty assessment / evaluation as assigned.
  • Complete assessment of non-instructional direct reports.
  • Assist the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs as requested.
  • Professional Development

  • Provide support for the professional development process.
  • SUPERVISES THE FOLLOWING STAFF

    Faculty (full and part time) and classified personnel.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    Minimum Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in a discipline related to the mission and programs of the College from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Three years of experience leading and coordinating the work of other staff, preparing and monitoring budgets, and performing program planning and administrative work in the area of academics or workforce in higher education.
  • Experience teaching in post-secondary education.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience effectively mentoring faculty in a positive and professional manner, and assessment of faculty performance using best practices.
  • Experience in the implementation of assessment of learning outcomes (course, degree, institutional) and program review.
  • Demonstrated, recent administrative experience overseeing the successful delivery of credit-transfer or career and technical education programs or workforce development programs at a higher education institution.
  • Management / supervisory skills and fiscal management skills.
  • Experience developing strategic goals and implementing assessments to guide continuous improvement efforts.

    Light physical exertion with occasional bending, stooping, pulling, and moderate lifting, employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and have the ability to carry equipment and tools of moderate weight, using arms and hands.

    Specific vision and hearing abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, and complete and maintain various types of records.

    Ability to hear the conversational voice and effectively communicate responses. Assignment will include presence at all OCCC locations and may include evening and weekend work.

    Travel between College sites and other locations will be required. Occasional travel and overnight stays outside of Lincoln County may be required for training and other purposes.

    Work occurs in an office environment with potential for interruptions and background noise.
