What are the responsibilities and job description for the Skills Trainer/Mentor position at Oregon Community Programs?
This is an hourly position on our Treatment Foster Care Team, 15 hours/week, with potential for growth to half-time.
Base compensation before adding pay equity differentials: $19.30/hour. Eligible for compensation increase at 6 months.
The Skills Trainers are skilled and team-oriented mentors who provide mental health services to youth participating in our specialized foster care program. Skills Trainers provide 1-2 hour weekly sessions to each youth with a goal of developing new skills through pro-social community activities. Skills Trainers operate under the direction of and provide feedback to the Individual or Family Therapist.
OCP Skills Trainers work directly with at-risk youth aged 3-20 who may experience emotional and behavioral challenges. They help the youth meet their therapy goals through playing games, hiking, doing things together out in the community, schoolwork help, attending local events, and by participating in other kid-normative activities. Skills Trainers model skills and provide natural opportunities for program youth to practice these skills in real life settings in the community. Depending on the age of the youth, some of the skills that we practice with youth are around ways of interacting with others in different public settings, initiating and maintaining friendships, learning new ways to regulate difficult emotions such as disappointment, frustration and sadness, taking turns, flexible thinking, and working on independent living skills. It's tons of fun and our kids usually love their skills training sessions!
