Minimum Qualifications
Four years’ experience doing administrative research that included compiling and evaluating facts to recommend management action or decide compliance with program guidelines and regulations. Two of the four years must be above the technical support level.
Note: college-level course work may substitute for experience on the basis of 45-quarter units per year, up to a maximum of three years.
Special qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

A Day In The Life
- Evaluate procedures for hiring commercial drivers to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Ensure compliance with controlled substance and alcohol testing requirements.
- Audit time documents, records of duty status, payroll ledgers and other documents to ensure compliance.
- Perform vehicle inspections to confirm compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
- Verify safety regulations are being followed for carriers transporting hazardous materials.
- Critique the safety compliance review process and explain avenues to become or remain compliant.
- Conduct investigations, prepare reports and issue citations for carriers who are out of compliance.
- Collaborate with others including law enforcement on accident investigations and provide expert witness testimony as requested.
- Serve as a technical resource for motor carriers and conduct meetings regarding safety standards.
- Must work with mechanical hand tools and testing equipment. Climbing, bending and crawling required to complete vehicle inspections.
- Work is primarily performed independently at weigh stations, motor carrier terminals and other remote locations with exposure to heavy duty highway equipment, hazardous materials and traffic.
- Irregular hours and overnight travel throughout the state is required. Hybrid work options available once training is complete.

- Experience interpreting, applying and enforcing rules, laws, regulations and policies.
- Experience writing technical reports, including high level detail and factual data analysis.
- Experience conducting investigations for the purpose of collecting and evaluating facts for compliance determination.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in difficult situations.
- Experience making oral presentations with the ability to explain technical information in plain language to groups or individuals from diverse backgrounds.
