JOB SUMMARY: The health assistant functions across divisions to address the health  care needs of students. He/she/they collaborates closely with the divisional assistants to  provide care to students experiencing illness or injury while on campus, monitor and dispense routine medications, administer first aid, or stabilize a child until emergency services arrive. The health assistant may play a role with the Residential Life Program, working with the nurse at OES to manage dorm students’ medical conditions, communicating as needed with families and providers, filling prescriptions, and arranging transportation to medical appointments.  Maintenance of student health records, management of medical supplies, and support for off campus trips round out this role’s portfolio of duties. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills with students, families and colleagues, and project a calm, reassuring demeanor. This position reports directly to the Health Director and works closely with the nurse at OES.

 

This is a part-time (up to 16 hours a week) during the academic school year, non-exempt, hourly, staff position that comes with a competitive pay and one excellent meal daily in the Dining Hall. The available hours for this role are two to three days per week, falling within the regular school day schedule (typically 8/9 AM - 2/3 PM). Candidates have the option to select which specific days they would like to work. There may be opportunities for the individual to take on extra hours during peak periods in the academic calendar. While prior experience in healthcare or educational settings is beneficial in this position, it is not a requirement for the role. We welcome and encourage all individuals who meet minimum qualifications and can perform essential duties to submit their applications.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide illness and injury management (within your level of training and with oversight from an RN) to students ages 4-18 years old 
  • Communicate necessary information to school and parents/guardians while maintaining confidentiality
  • Provide first aid and emergency care to students, including CPR and use of AED
  • Respond to campus health emergencies for students, staff and visitors
  • Record student health information accurately using electronic student health management system 
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with division assistants
  • Work closely with nurse to support health management of students in the residential program (approximately 60 upper school students)
  • Stock and maintain first aid kits for experiential education trips
  • May assist with downloading and organizing health files for trip leaders
  • Maintain first aid supplies in health care rooms and around campus for the dorm office and each of the three divisions, as well as pertinent classrooms (art classrooms, science labs, etc).
  • Dispose of expired medications.
