Summary:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing daily maintenance activities to meet business objectives. The role ensures the smooth operation of equipment and facilities, prioritizing maintenance tasks, and leading a team of maintenance technicians. This position also plays a key role in coaching, developing, and motivating the maintenance team to achieve optimal performance. Additionally, the Maintenance Manager will focus on implementing safety standards, lean manufacturing principles, and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Development:
- Stay focused on identified goals and drive results.
- Set clear expectations for your team and ensure each employee meets those standards.
- Coach, develop, and motivate your team to ensure peak performance.
- Hold employees accountable for their responsibilities and actions.
- Ensure effective communication within the team and across other departments.
Maintenance Operations:
- Prioritize maintenance tasks and delegate assignments effectively to the maintenance team.
- Lead Maintenance Technicians in performing repairs, modifications, and upgrades to equipment.
- Coordinate and assign preventive maintenance (PM) schedules, work orders, changeovers, and other duties as needed.
- Analyze maintenance work orders and assign maintenance crews to ensure timely completion.
- Organize follow-up work, including obtaining parts and scheduling necessary tasks.
Training & Safety:
- Coordinate training for Maintenance Technicians to ensure continuous skill development and adherence to safety practices.
- Safety Focus: Ensure compliance with safety programs, such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, PSM/PHA, MSDS, and safety meetings.
- Lean Manufacturing: Drive lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow, minimize waste, and improve efficiency across the production floor.
- Six Sigma: Implement Six Sigma methodologies to streamline maintenance processes and improve equipment uptime and reliability.
- Ensure safety compliance across the team and lead accident investigations when required.
Workplace Environment:
- Establish and maintain a positive work environment, promoting good personnel policies, safety standards, and housekeeping practices.
- Provide technical support and guidance to maintenance personnel as needed.
- Collaborate with operational departments to maintain equipment and improve productivity, job capabilities, and equipment performance.
- Plan and execute projects as assigned by the Manufacturing Maintenance Manager.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with new technologies and advancements in the industry through trade magazines, training, and technical manuals.
- Continuously work to improve the utilization of the MP2 system and other maintenance management tools.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies to drive efficiency across maintenance and production.
Repair Assistance:
- Provide direct assistance with repair work as necessary to support the team.
GFSI Requirements:
- Maintain food safety and quality standards by completing tasks and ensuring work areas remain sanitary.
- Report food safety problems to personnel with the authority to take corrective action.
- Monitor contracted services and ensure proper calibration and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain the Preventive Maintenance Program to ensure operational compliance.
Coverage:
- The Maintenance Supervisor is trained in all aspects of the Maintenance Manager role and will provide coverage for the position when needed.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- At least 5 years of experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience in supervising line employees and leading a team.
- Experience with electronic Preventive Maintenance and Inventory Management systems (e.g., MP2).
- Proficient computer skills and organizational/administrative knowledge.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with people.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing: Long periods (minimum of 6 hours).
- Sitting: Occasionally for short periods.
- Walking: Frequently.
- Bending/Twisting of Spine: Occasionally.
- Lifting: Light (less than 30 lbs) frequently.
- Carrying: Light (30-50 lbs) infrequently over short distances (up to 100 ft).
- Pushing/Pulling: Under 75 lbs without assistance, infrequently.
- Ability to work at heights approaching 85 feet, with roof heights at 100 feet (no vertigo).
- Ability to tolerate cold environments (cooler and warehouse).
Special Requirements:
- On-call availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays and weekends.
