What are the responsibilities and job description for the QC Lab Technician Vacation Relief position at Oregon Ice Cream LLC?
THE ROLE:
Ensure all production runs adhere to the company’s food safety and quality standards. Maintain all aspects and systems of production that relate to Quality Assurance and Control. Stay focused on identified goals and expectations of your team and production. Clear and accurate documentation of all quality checks. Motivate and assist with production related issues to ensure high quality and food safety. Cover all shifts as needed for vacation relief, including the micro lab.
Essential Functions:
Maintain food safety and quality through the facility and assist production to ensure programs and policies are being followed:
- Work all shifts/schedules in Plant 1/2 QA Labs as required to cover for vacations.
- Expired ingredient monitoring and testing.
- Restock, inventory, and communicate needed supplies to Lab Manager.
- Microbiological, physical, and chemical analyses of samples, including retesting.
- Communicate to Lab Manager all non-conforming raw materials, ingredients, and finished products.
- Testing product, mixes, cream, and sugar to ensure they meet desired specifications.
- Acceptance and rejection of raw materials and packaging.
- Data entry and general maintenance of QA Database and various testing logs.
- Perform allergen testing on rinse water and finished product at start-up on all production cycles of dissimilar allergens.
- Calibration and documentation of laboratory equipment and plant-wide thermometers.
- Daily water and air testing.
- Verify and approve the proper conformance and usage of rework.
- Collect and help maintain flavor retains.
- Complete product cuttings to ensure proper variegate and inclusion distribution within the products.
- Yogurt culture preparation and titration, brix testing for sorbet products, butterfat and total solids testing as specified per product.
- Clean and organize QA Labs.
- Print and develop mix sheets as needed to help assist production.
- Participate in a safe and respectful, food safety and quality work environment, by following company policies, processes, SOPs and communicating concerns or ideas to supervisors and management.
- Adhere to, and communicate, quality, safety, and security regulations.
- Assist Lab Manager and FSQA Manager with extra tasks such as writing SOPs, documentation, and filing papers.
Food Safety Requirements:
- Maintaining food safety and food quality through ensuring GFSI compliance.
- Report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
- The monitoring of daily production to ensure high quality and food safety.
- Assuring personnel hygiene and welfare practices within the facility.
Education Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- At least 1 year experience in a lab environment is preferred
- Computer knowledge is essential
- Organizational and Administrative knowledge
- Ability to work well with people
- Communication skills
