TITLE : Pediatric Hospitalist

POSITION OVERVIEW : The Pediatric Hospitalist examines, diagnoses, and treats acute and chronic medical conditions; develops treatment plans and manages patient health issues in accordance with established protocols; uses current evidence-based guidelines in creating diagnostic and treatment plans; provides compassionate care which addresses social determinants of health; maintains accurate electronic health records of patients and completes documentation in a timely manner.

Work schedule : Shifts vary, day shifts are generally ten (10) hours in duration, with Swing shift covering six (6) hours during the weekday, night shift are six (6) hours onsite and eight (8) hours offsite on call. Physician will work a minimum of 83 shifts per year for a half-time Hospitalist. These shifts will be split between day, swing, and night shifts. Option of flex scheduling.

Call expectation : Coverage for call is off-site for eight (8) hours with the need to come in for any admissions or urgent patient care needs.

Work location : Physicians primary work location will be St. Charles Bend Hospital.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES :

Clinical Expectations :

Conducts thorough examinations on children, newborn through teen, in accordance with best practices to check and monitor and record their physical and behavioral development.

Conducts a thorough workup of sick children, including medical, surgical, psychosocial, and family histories, review of symptoms, physical examination, and appropriate studies to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.

Prescribes medications and treatments as appropriate, tailored to the individual, and monitors for effectiveness, adjusting the plan as necessary for optimal outcome.

Requests specialty consultation as needed and works collaboratively with the consulting specialist toward optimal healing for the patient. Follows up with parents, the patients Primary Care Provider or specialists as necessary after examination to ensure of the childs progress and compliance with treatment recommendations.

Keeps accurate and updated records.

Keeps abreast of advancements and learnings in pediatric medicine and best practices.

Possesses in depth knowledge and experience of pediatric epidemiology and infectious diseases.

Possesses in depth knowledge of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation principles and techniques.

Administrative Expectations :

Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete all necessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies to ensure timely and accurate billing.

Be familiar with the SCHS organization structure.

Participate in SCMG physicians meetings and assist in policy formation for SCMG and Physicians practice.

Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity. Must attest to having adequate (CME) to meet maintenance of board certification and compliance with MSO rules and continuing privileges without restriction.

Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted.

Maintain active privileges at a St. Charles Health System hospital sufficient to permit performance of job duties.

This includes introducing oneself and stating your purpose, asking the patient their preferred name, spending time with the patient to determine their care goals, active listening, and using skillful communications (appropriate touch, eye contact, etc.).

Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the health systems corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all health systems investigations and proceedings.

EDUCATION

Required :

Graduation from an accredited medical school.

Successful completion of an accredited residency program in pediatric medicine or combined internal medicine-pediatric medicine.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION / REGISTRATION

Required :

Oregon license as MD / DO.

Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics. To be board certified or qualified to sit for the boards in primary area of practice at the Hospital. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency or fellowship training are required to become board certified within seven years of residency or fellowship training.

PALS certification.

NRP certification.

Valid drivers license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.

Maintain unrestricted DEA number.

Maintain unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred :

2 years experience in hospital and / or outpatient practice environments providing care in pediatric medicine.

Successful completion of an accredited fellowship in Pediatric hospital medicine or board certified in Pediatric hospital medicine.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

GENERAL

Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent SCHS.

Ability to multi-task and work independently.

Attention to detail.

Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication and customer service skills, particularly in dealing with stressful personal interactions.

Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems.

Intermediate in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel).

Active listener, patient, calm, reassuring, compassionate.

Outstanding diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

Ability to successfully interface with parents while also maintaining excellent records.

Familiarity with traditional and web-based prescription systems.

Proven ability to work as a medical professional in a team environment with positive engagement and contributing to the morale of the entire team in the hospital.
